SOURCE: fully rebuilt front calipers but they will not relaease

Try the Hoses if they are original they may be breaking up internally and stopping the fluid from returning to the master cyl.

SOURCE: What is the proper procedure to bleed the air out

The one man way is to get a small botle( a spice bottle and fill it about a third of the way up. Place a piece of tube (clear preferably)of the proper dimension over your bleeder valve located on caliper. Then open bleed valve and presson brake pedal. If all bubbles escaped thru tube into bottle, then you may repeat untilno bublesremain then tighten bleeder valve. If bubbles remain in hose, close bleeder before releasing brake. This will probably require an assistant. Ensure you keep reservoir from going dry by filling when necessary. Repeat as necessry until all bubbles are gone from brakelines.

SOURCE: how to fit front master cylinder repair kit

Just remove the lever, gently pull rubber boot out of the body, take a snap ring pliers, and remove the circlip, and pull the piston out of the body. Use the piston as a reference to install the seals correctly on the new piston. Be sure to take out the screw in the reservoir, remove the reservoir, and clean the fluid return pin hole ( Must Be Clear) , next to the large fluid feeder hole. Also using a dowel covered with a lint free cloth gently wipe out the piston sleeve being careful not to scratch the walls ( Do Not Hone The Master Cylinder or it will be ruined). Coat parts with brake fluid before reassembly in reverse order. Cover bike with plastic and put some old rags under master cylinder. Before tightening brake hose bolt, fill the master cylinder with dot 3/4 brake fluid and pump the lever until the master cylinder is pushing fluid out the end where bolt and hose are loosely connected, now tighten bolt holding the brake line on. This will aid greatly in bleeding the system.

SOURCE: master cylinder not releasing pressure

This is probably not the master cylinder, but more likely the brake caliper sticking.

The caliper uses hard-rubber 'O' rings, and they get old and 'sticky', to the point that they will no longer 'release' the brake pads.

Either rebuild your caliper, or replace with a new one.

1991 PATHFINDER Does this car have a proportional valve and would this cause front calipers to lock up?

Need year make and model. In most newer vehicles the valve is located in the master cylinder. It will not normally lock up the front wheels. It usually controls one front and one rear wheel at a time in the event of a brake fluid loss. If front calipers are locking up you could have seized caliper pistons/slide assemblies. The flex hoses may be deterioated internally due to contaminated brake fluid or the master cylinder may be defective

Have a 99 Toyota camry n brake light is on after changing right front brake caliper

Master cylinder fluid piston has entered into a brake safe mode.
when the high pressure brake system is opened in any way, the brake master cylinder piston reaches to the far end of the master cylinder which trips the brake system warning light.

This brake light condition is due to sudden loss of brake fluid pressure on the right front brake caliper assembly during the replacement.

Left rear brake caliper bleed valve will ned to be "opened" until master cylinder piston travels into the opposite direction which "resets" the brake system warning light.

Dot 4 brake fluid recommened for most, but not all vehicles.
Reference vehicle to owners manual for replacement fluid is replaced under master cylinder brake system cap.

1982 Gold Wing Aspend brake pedal is frozen

If the lever is frozen in the pivot shaft, use a penetrating oil to loosen the pedal and remove it. Clean the rust off grease the shaft and put the lever back on. If the piston is frozen in the master cylinder of the rear brake, then get a piston kit from the local Honda dealer, remover the master cylinder assembly from the cycle clean rebuild and reinstall, then bleed the system. Consider removing the brake caliper and clean the corrosion out of the piston seal groove. This will keep you from having future problems. You will need to get the master cylinder working to get the piston out USING BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE so you do not damage the piston in the caliper when you go to clean the seal grooves.

How do i change front brake pads on my 2002 fxd super glide

For 2002 DYNA to replace front brake pads FIRST r
emove the front master cylinder reservoir cap because as the pistons are pushed back into the caliper the fluid level may rise and you will need to see this and may have to remove some excess fluid, the3n loosen but do not remove both (12 pt/0.25 in.) pad pins, remove both 10 mm caliper mounting bolts, detach and remove the caliper from the front forks and brake disc, pry the pads back to force all four caliper pistons fully into their bores, with the pistons retracted, remove the pad pins and brake pads. The front left, front right (if present as not present on all motorcycles) and the rear brake calipers use the same exact brake pad set. On the right side of the vehicle, the pad with the two tabs installs on the inboard side of the caliper and on the left side the pad with the two tabs installs on the outboard side of the caliper. Install new brake pads into caliper with the curved portion of the pad facing the rear of the motorcycle, loosely install the pad pins until you hear an audible click, attach the caliper to the front fork, on models with dual front calipers check the alignment of the brake discs to the calipers. Loosen the axle pinch bolt nuts, tighten the axle nut to the proper torque, insert a 7/16 in. drill bit through the hole in the axle as far as it will go so that the contact point will have the edge of the drill bit touching the edge of the fork leg, place the caliper over the brake disc with the bleeder valve facing upwards, loosely install the long 12 pt/10 mm mounting bolt into the top hole on the fork leg, install the short 12 pt/10 mm mounting bolt into the bottom hole on the fork leg, tighten the bottom mounting bolt to 28-38 ft-lbs (38.51.5 Nm), final tighten the top mounting bolt to 28-38 ft-lbs (38.51.5 Nm), final tighten both pad pins to 180-200 in-lbs (20.3-22.6 Nm)., on models with dual front calipers, tighten the pinch bolt nuts while holding the slider against the 7/16 drill bit if necessary, remove the drill bit, pump the brake hand lever to move the pistons out until they contact both brake pads, verify the piston location against the pads and if the front wheel is off the ground, rotate it to check for excessive brake pad drag, check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder and fill it to the proper level if necessary using D.O.T. 5 SILICONE BRAKE FLUID, install the master cylinder reservoir cap and tighten its cap screws to 6-8 in-lbs (0.7-0.9 Nm), turn ignition switch ON pump the brake hand lever to verify operation of the brake lamp, test the brakes, test ride the motorcycle and if the brakes feel soft or spongy, bleed the system until you get a firm/hard brake lever and avoid making hard stops for the first 100 miles (160 km) to allow the new brake pads to become conditioned to the brake disc(s

How do i change front brake pad on this car merecy sable 1989 -99

Remove the wheel, remove the 2 bolts holding on the caliper to the caliper carrier. You will need a large C-Clamp or a cailper piston tool. Place an old brake pad against the piston in the caliper and use the C-Clamp to push the brake pad against the piston to collapses the piston into the caliper. Also open the master cylinder cap and place a towel around the area to catch any brake fluid that would come out of the master cylinder as you collapes the piston, this is normal, but doesn't always happen, depending on the level of fluid in the master cylinder. Install the new pads and reinstall the caliper and wheel. Make sure you pump the brake pedal a few times before you take off, to get the pads against the rotor.
