If it has a pump, it is normally because it is fuel injected. That means the fuel is pressurized to be sprayed as a fine mist through the injectors. Gravity feed will not work.
It is never a wise choice to find ways around what manufacturers have decided is the best design choice for the vehicle you have.
pump you are referring to is the fuel primer/air bleed pump when you replace the fuel filter. Try using a fuel or gallon container and feed fuel directly on the injection pump by gravity. what is the mileage of your pickup? the fuel pump is inside the injection pump. After fuel feeding the pump thru gravity and it corrects the problem, you may have a leaky fuel filter or hoses.
Have you checked the fuel pressure with the pump running? If you have a way to measure the pressure at the carb check what it is on gravity feed and with the pump running. Some fuel pumps have a return line to the tank that may be clogged causing the pressure to be high.
If gravity feed works to the fuel line on the carburetor, then the fuel pump is bad. Repair or replace fuel pump. I am looking for fuel resistant sealant to repair fuel pump diaphragms. Has anyone tried Permatex 85420 or something else to achieve this? My application is antique and the part is no longer available at a reasonable cost.
Try the gravity pump see it if holds pressure and if it has vachumm. You may have a plug in the Fuel filter or a cracked line. If the Gravity feed pump is not giving enought pressure to the main pump it won't build enought pressure.
I think this is a simple gravity feed to the carbs. It's possible you require some vacuum from the intact manifold to open the flow. Some Honda Nighthawks are set up that way.
