SOURCE: Manual transmission oil change method - Dakota

Disconnect the plug underneath to drain fluid, look in your service manual to find the capacity and viscosity. There is a plug in the side of the transmission as well that is the filler plug, however it is more convenient to pour through the shifter once you remove it. If you use the filler plug method you will have to attach a tube to the oil bottle and squeeze it into the transmission as there may not be ample room to tilt the bottle and use gravity.

Testimonial: "Thank you for this tip. The manual does not show capacity for the transmission but I found on other forums that the amount seems to be 4.8 liters."

HOW MUCH OIL IN QUARTS DO YOU NEED TO CHANGE THE OIL ON A 2001 DODGE DAKOTA V8 5.9 ENGINE

Around 4 and a half plus at least a nother half for the oil filter . Look at the dip stick it has an opperating range above where it says add. As long as your in this range your Ok . Don't over fill it that may gum up your vavle train and cause leaks . If you do the oil filter you fill it then check the dip stick then start it then shut it down check the dip stick again and add oil as required to be in the opperating range and the job will be done corectly.

How i change the oil pump in my dodge dakota 4.7 V8- 2001 ?

You are going to have to lift the motor to accomplish this. Your best bet would be to use a cherry picker. You'll have to disconnect the battery, and any thing else that will impede you from lifting it. You don't have to go up that much so don't take anything off that will waste your time. Just remove what ever may be dammaged. Pull the pan and replace the pump and put it back together in reverse order.

2001 Dodge Dakota 3.9L oil pressure

The pickup tube is a bad design in these engines, I have fixed several with the same problem, you can weld on a GM screen move it 1/4 of a inch away from the pan or add 1 inch to the bottom of the pan, (use a high volume pump) the problem is the screen is too close and too small and will pick up any sludge off the bottom. also it's great to make a access plate on the bottom of the pan using a Volkswagen Bug oil cover plate, it can be removed with bolts after a oil drain to clean the screen without the hassle of removing the whole oil pan by lifting the engine on these trucks. Good Luck
