i hope this helps for the water pump. The thermostat is located at top of engine simply follow upper hose to engine and remove housing and replace thermostat.
c'mon man, girl, relax , this is not even a problem, did you change thermostat ? hope so, is it installed in the right position ? are your radiator hoses bad, replace if worn , soft, etc., with truck warming up watch to see if hoses collapse, if old replace anyway . use 50/50 coolant mix, are heater hoses ok, not leaking ?
Okay, it may be due to overheating, that may be the noise you heard, lets hope. first allow engine to cool, open radiator cap or the resivoir cap, which ever is the fill, remove the bleeder at top hose and fill radiator slowly until coolant comes out bleeder.
note if water pump was replaced due to leaking and engine was overheated at that time then it may be a good idea to replace the thermostat . after filling is done start engine and allow it to run. watch temperature if temp start to climb past half way shut engine down and let sit for 5min. then restart and check level, in res do not open cap . feel air from fan and see if it is getting hot, this may take up to a half hour but do not drive,
A few questions, does this jeep have an electric fan? when you heard the knocking was engine temp hot? If you start jeep cold does engine knock? Did this jeep get a new thermostat with waterpump job? did it overheat when pump went bad and why did water pump get replaced?
sorry for all the questions ,just trying to get all the info to help you .
could be leaking at the top radiator hose going to thermostat, that is a hard spot to see leak remove the air filter and air filter housing look below throttle body you see thermostat housing, check for leaks around thermostat housing gasket and check for leak at the top radiator hose going to radiator and thermostat.if all is good check all radiator hoses for leaks check small coolant lines going to throttle body for leaks and check make sure bleeder screw on thermostat housing not loose it will leak also check around radiator and water pump heater bypass metal lines for leaks.
when replacing coolant, did you bleed the air from system! you can remove radiator or overflow cap when cold. start vehicle and let it run until thermostat opens, when all air is out hoses should get hot. but before starting, turn heater on to high setting, if you vehicle does not have a air bleeder on it. do as above. just be sure radiator is full of coolant. after hoses get hot, turn off heater, then put cap back on radiator or overflow. good-day! the first thing to do is to check for a stuck closed thermostat. do this first ok!
water pumps leak when they fail from a weap hole in the pump.thermostats are usually at the end of upper radiator hose, but not all some have them in the lower hose.i dont think your problem is a bad thermostat,to me i'd think the cooling system is low on coolant have you checked? if it was & the system is now full check to make sure no air is in system.there should be a bleeder screw, look in the housing where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine for a screw. with the engine warm & running open screw to remove air.leave bleeder open until you have a constant flow of coolant then close & top off system.
You should make sure there is no air in the cooling system. With the engine COLD open the bleeder screw, take the cooling cap off, make sure it is full, put your mouth on the neck and blow until a clear stream of antifreeze comes out the bleeder. Then close the bleeder, top up the coolant, and you should be good to go, unless there is another problem.
CHECK AROUND WATER PUMP AREA.AND THERMOSTAT HOUSING FOR LEAKS.THE MECHANIC WHO PUT THE WATER PUMP ON MAY FORGOT TO PUT SEALANT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE WATER PUMP GASKET CAUSING LEAKS.LOOK AROUND THERMOSTAT HOUSING FOR LEAKING.IF THERMOSTAT SEAL WAS DAMAGE DURING INSTALLATION IT WILL CAUSE LEAKING.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS AROUND RADIATOR .CHECK RADIATOR TOP AND BOTTOM HOSES FOR LEAKS AND CHECK HEATER PIPES AND HEATER CORES HOSES FOR LEAKS.IF ALL HOSES GOOD.CHECK FOR LEAKING CORE PLUGS.
You need to make sure you don’t have an air lock. Find the bleeder valve for the coolant system and release the air. If you can’t find the bleeder, find the highest hose for the coolant system and make sure coolant is flowing through it.
