There are several things that can cause the problems you are having. the first is ignition timing. the rest are as follows: excessive play in distributor shaft, while checking that, check distributor cap, wires, etc., faulty or incorrectly gapped plugs, dirty air filter, faulty ignition coil, brakes binding, incorrect auto tranny fluid level, clogged fuel filter, slipping clutch, egr system not functioning properly, low or uneven cylinder compressions.,vacuum leaks on or around the intake manifold, or a fault with the fuel injection or engine management system

Lose power going up hill

1968 pickup? what?
2012, Toyota updated Toyota Hilux Vigo "Champ"?
what year, no year no joy,
what engine, no engine option stated, so no possible exact answers.
if wanting dead accurate answers, WHAT COUNTRY?
upgrade = tuneup = doing all 60k service points?

now in the generic.
if it misfires, it can be bad spark, (engine shakes)
if it only bogs. its bad fueling
bad fueling means, bad carb.
if modern car, bad fueling means EFI problems.
do tell year,
do tell engine. (cylinder count and displacment)
or pick one out here.

1994 toyota 4x4 22re loses power when you push gas pedal or going up hill and the valves start to rattle then

I suspect your ignition timing is too advanced and the rattling sound is actually detonation (VERY VERY bad for your engine). Have your ignition timing set and your valves adjusted.

I have a 1990 toyota pickup DLX ext cab V6 5-speed

If it seems to run well otherwise, you might have a partially obstructed catalytic convertor. Usually if this is the problem, the engine will also bog down even if you try to rev it up when it is in neutral.
