Missing ignition start switch for 1981 yamaha xj650 maxim, what's the amp required to start it? Having trouble finding the right momentary switch to install

Starting doesn't go through the ignition switch it goes through the starter solenoid and the ignition switch controls that solenoid only about 5 amps.

What kind of oil should i be using for a 1981 yamaha xs400?

There's such thing as motorcycle oil. Its formulated for motorcycle engines. I'd go in to an auto parts store and ask exactly which weight oil to use for your engine.

I need a carburetor for a 1981 xs400 special. Does anybody know where I can get one without costing me an arm and a leg.

In consideration of the arm and leg issue, Google " motorcycle salvage yamaha " and see what you can find. You may also consider gettin the parts needed to fix the carb. Many, but not all, parts are available at the website below. Please rate my answer. Thanks.
