Check for leak's on manifold rubber between cylinders!
Try to squirt a Carbu cleaner inside the manifold when running,if the idle going fast or dropped, then you have a leak,.

Set the alarm by holding the key fob button until you see running lights flash twice. Turn off the alarm by pushing the key fob button twice and the lights will flash once.

SOURCE: 1998 roadking idles to fast after it warms up.

Is it fuel injected or carbureted? If the bike is fuel injected it will idle fast until the engine warms up...if it continues to idle fast after about 10-15 seconds it could have a faulty sensor.

If carbureted, after you push the choke in does it still idle fast? If so, there is an idle adjust screw on the top of the carburetor just behind the air cleaner.

Do you have a tach on the bike? If you do, then the normal warmed-up idle should be 1000rpm.

No sweat. Screw the idle mixture screw in until it "bottoms out". Do not tighten or you will damage the screw. Back the idle mixture screw out about three turns. Install carburator and check for proper operation.
When you get the bike running, allow it to warm up and then adjust the mixture for highest smoothest idle. Set idle speed to about 1000 rpm with the throttle stop screw.

SOURCE: how to slow fast idle in heritage softail

Sorry but you have to take it to a dealer or someone with a box that can adjust the idle speed. Your fuel injected bike is just like your car, there isn't much can as an owner can do to them anymore. It's been headed that way since 1999. The days of fixing your own motorcycle are slipping away quickly. That's why I'm keeping my old bikes. I can still work on them.

Good Luck
Steve

Rough idling 2000 carbureted heritage classic

It sounds as if you may have some partially contaminated fuel entering the carbs. About the only other thing I can imagine that would cause this is a very small vacuum leak at the point where the carbs mount. Carbs have even been known to shake loose at the air horn to main body gasket. Good luck!

What carburetor does my bike have?

If your bike came equipped with a carb and no one has changed it, your bike is equipped with a Keihen CV 40mm carb.

Good luck

1995 FLSTF 80CI Carburator bike not passing emissions

If you're talking about simply adjusting the idle mixture screw, you need to turn the screw inwards to lean it out. But, if you can get to the idle mixture screw, your carb has been modified as this screw has a "anti-tamper" plug covering the screw. The mixture screw is on the back side of the float bowl facing upwards.

More than likely, it sounds as if someone has rejetted the carb. That year model CV carb came with a a #42 slow jet in the carb. The modification to make them run better was to go to a #45 slow jet. This was in the original Keihen 40mm CV type carb. You can try to adjust the mixture screw and see if that allows you to pass. If it doesn't, repost and let us know. Maybe we can help you rejet your carb. Good Luck!

Hi I have a 1995 heritage softail we just took the bike out the other day and was not working good the idle didnt sound good and it was also backfiring and at one point fire came out of the pipe can you...

sounds like you may have an intake leak. with the bike running spray a little starting fluid on the intake manifold but make sure you dont spray it into the back of air cleaner as this will give you a false reading. if the idle changes when you spray starting fluid on the intake manifold then you have an intake leak and need to replace the intake manifold gaskets. God luck let me know what you find
