Try running the dash reset. With key out, push and hold the trip button for 10 sec or more until the calibration starts. The needles will move and lamps light. When done, your gage needle will be re-calibrated to what the sender should give (75 ohm full, 1050 ohm empty, I think). The dash reset works on our 2002 T&C, so likely for all later models. Could fix your problem if the sender in the tank is still fine.

No. Your fuel tank level sensor need to be re calibrated/replaced as it might be stuck in the half tank position. To check this the tank must be as empty as possible, definitely under half tank. Let somebody assist you in the following manner. Go to the filling station switch of the engine but not the electrical power, thus not disabling the fuel gauge from functioning. Let the other person start refueling the vehicle with more or less a gallon at a time. Check the fuel gauge carefully. If it is stuck it will not move until the fuel in the tank start to exceed the half tank quantity. There after it will rise proportionally with the fuel added.
If the calibration is out to such an extent in that half indicated by the gauge means really an empty tank check it as follows. Use the other person again and same method as above. Start filling up. This time the gauge will immediately start moving with each gallon added. Continue till the gauge indicate full and take note of the fuel quantity added. Continue filling up to the point before overflowing the tank. If a lot of fuel (gallons) could be added, the sensor is stuck in the lower part of the tank and also require recalibration /replacement.

If your fuel gauge is showing you in accurate readings this is normal to all vehicles that are not used to fill-up gas full regularly but sometimes the cause of the inacuracy is due to faulty float valve in the gas tank you need to replace it

SOURCE: Engine starves for fuel after running about 50 miles or so...

Has Neon do same, I ran fuel at low level, on hot day, ran engine until it started to act up & threw a fuel pressure gauge on it. Was at approx 5 psi. Cold next morning, 48-50 psi. Always hot day about 30-40 miles into work in morning, o.k. Sit in hot sun all day & would happen 3-4 times on way home. Sit and let cool, 20 minutes or so & go again for a while. Cool day, no problem. Change pump I would.

SOURCE: 2003 Chrysler T&C Van. Gas gauge stopped

the fuel gauge sending unit in the gas tank is a mechanical part, but you may have an electrical problem. the needle is moved by an electrical signal. you can check the wires coming out of the back of the gauge, one will run to a chassis ground. make sure that wire has a good connection to ground, first because it won't work right without it and second because it's lots easier than the next thing you will have to do if that doesn't make an improvement. if you see no difference after checking the ground then you need to drop the tank and replace the fuel level sending unit. you will have to remove the fuel pump to get to it so you might want to replace it while you have it out, that's your call. your vehicle is new enough that the decision would be more based on miles than age. hope that helps

SOURCE: WHEN FUEL GUAGE REACHES HALF

from what you are describing you have two(2) different problems
1- the wacky gauge- its acting like a grounding issue- wires are crushed/smashed on tank connector
2- not filling - venting issue- vent line to top of tank pinched
3 solution- run tank down to 1/4 or less and DROP tank down to inspect wires and hoses- sounds like at some point in time the tank took a hit and wedged itself upwards against the underside, pinched the vent line so there is too much pressure in tank and also crushing the wires/plug causing the erratic readings(worse with less weight as the tank moves more)
if unsure of how to do this- you can get a manual such as a HAYES book at auto parts story- good luck

Gas needle wont move

If it is showing that it is empty, the float may have sank. However, the cause could be the gauge in the dash or the sender and the sender is in the tank. It is not easy to change because you have to drop the tank. It is cheaper to replace the sender than it is to change the dash because the dash guages are all on one unit. However there are tests that can be run to see what the issue is and the tests are done using meters and jumpers etc to see if the guage responds to those. Then they know whether it is the sender or the guage.

Fuel system problem van won't start. It will run with starting fluid. It's full of gas. fuel gauge says empty. fuel light is on. fuel pump fuse appears to be OK

check for power to the fuel pump, ck your connections to the fuel tank, if the connections are good, and you have voltage to the sending unit, your fuel pump is bad, since your gauge reads empty, and it is full of fuel, I would really look a the connection at the tank

I have a 2006 Pontiac Montana. My gas guage is extremely unreliable. I run out of gas when the guage shows a quarter tank. And the digital readout for fuel range will say I have anywhere from 65 to 130...

I would guess you will have to replace the sending unit in the tank. A mechanic can check the sending unit with a meter and find out if the sending unit is faulty or the gauge on the dash.

Is the check engine light on when you turn the key switch on ?
The one thing that can affect both the gauges and the ignition circuit is the key switch.

2001 T&C gas guage does not work comes on and

check your cluster instrument behind the dash. Faulty sending unit . Or lose wire on the fuel tank. you may have 2 filters. One of the filters should be underside of van running on the side of your gas tank.

If you remove the sending unit in the gas tank, move it manually by hand as u saw done earlier, the gauge on the dash should also move. As long as the sending unit in the tank isn't 'stuck' at the half full level, the gauge should register empty to full as it moves. To be honest, I'm not sure if I would bother taking the sending unit out. 1st, u must be very careful not to blow yourself up when working on the gas tank (no sparks, etc), all u really need to do is fill up your car, see how many miles a tank of gas will go (carry a can of gas with u to see how many miles before u run out). If it's 350 miles, just set the trip gauge to zero every time u fill up, and get gas every 300 miles so u don't run out. If the sending unit moves freely, everything (wiring ) is connected properly, then it probably is the fuel gauge. good luck!
