1994 Kawasaki ZXR 400 idles high when hot

When my bike is cold it idles at about 1200 rpm as it gets hotter the idle goes up as it is at working temp. As you let the throttle return the bike will come down but won't go back to 1200 rpm and when I turn the idle screw down it dies and floods the engine so when going along when the engine is hot it won't go back to 1200 rpm not even if I apply the clutch please help

take the throttle cable off the arm at the carb end and try pulling the cable and check 4 stiffness maybe a frayd cable other wise all air screws may not be in sync with each other if tht doesnt work get back 2 me on tht 1

SOURCE: cant keep idle at one rpm

First, check that you gas cable is not kink or something when you replace the tank. Also do you know the procedure to ajust the carb. Let the motor heat up and ajust the two screw. Does the choke keeps on, or have something broken. Something big is just on front of you. PAtience, you'll figure that out... It doesnt sound like something that needs to be clean here...

SOURCE: Engine dies when choke is taken off or when throttle is applied.

where the valves set cold or hot? could make the world of a difference...is there intake leaks? bad floats perhaps....its a problem that will take some time cancelling out problem by problem

Ford explorer 4.0 1991 high revs

not told hot or cold engine
the controls for idle are not the same , those 2 modes.
how high is high RPM,.
hot is 800 RPM regulated by PCM + isc idle valve.
cold is controlled by IAC,thermal air control valve.
and runs about 1200 to 2000 rpm,cold
cold in Florida is 1200 cold in ALASKA is 2000.
if the thermostat is bad, stuck open, and 150f coolant temp the RPM will be stuck high all the time
as will huge vacuum air leaks, the MAP sensor sees that and engine screams.
pully connectors is useless as doing so puts he PCM in limp home mode and idle controls are disabled in that mode. limp
there are lots more tests, to do. but my fingers are tired.
get shop to fix it?

1993 automatic transmission Geo Tracker that stalls every time I stop

sorry for late post
that was dead wrong to do. 1.6L ( 8v or 16v?)
the PCM sets idle only (ISC valve) and when cold only thermal IAC valve, so if then wrecked the TB throttle stop screw setting a factory settings. (no never touch) it did this like a CARB and is not one.

so is this a hot engine stall or cold, hot means normal temps.
stall on this car means the PCM lost control of idle. (its job is that)
top cause are.
1: EGR struck open they love to just as you stop the car. and stalls at 400 rpm and is never allowed to be active at idle (PCM logic0
so is bad valve stuck.
now back to high RPM
the answer is not same for 8v and 15valve engine
8v any vacuum leak causes super high idle.
16v engine leaks cause low idle, goes lean.
stalling has many causes ,
and are not the same hot and cold engine
on cold engine the IAC open and idle is about 1500 RPM
if not the IAC is dead or EGR stuck open.
on the hot engine the ISC holds RPM at 800 rpm, (AC off)
if not ISC stuck EGR open or ISC is jammed up,

EGR and ISC just love to stick on this car and can be cleaned
the IAC is therrmal device and can not be cleaned, only replaces and are rare now.
I have simple test to prove what it is , ask/

Rpm is always at 2

Idle rpms should be between 1200 and 1300. 2,000 is to high. Your bike will run hotter when idling and also use more fuel when not needed.

Idle speed around 2000 rpm, 1st ride of the year , had this issue. I followed my Manual info and adjusted Cold and Hot adjustments. When restarted the idle was close to normal, but after a minute or 2...

Adjust the idle speed ONLY when the engine is at full operating temp. It should be idled at about 1000 RPM. It will probably be too low when cold and you may have to use the throttle control to keep the engine running until it gets completely warmed up. On the carburetor equipped engines, you cannot adjust the bike where it will idle cold and not be too high when it gets hot. The only way you can get this is with fuel injected models.

Good Luck

Where to put the water in a Kawasaki ZXR 400 1994

The is a reservoir tank mounted under the fuel tank on the left hand side of the bike.

Notes:
1. always use 50:50 water/anti-freeze
2. don't fill tank past the max line (excess coolant will get dump out the bottom of the bike when hot, and coolant of slippery ;)
3. If loosing coolant, find out why. Damaged hose, blown head gasket or stuffed thermostat are like causes.
