You have a bent shift fork and possibly something else going on. The engine will need to come out of the bike. Remove the top end, the flywheel and electrics, the clutch, the shift mechanism and kick starter and a few other parts. THEN you are ready to split the gearbox to get to the crankshaft, gears and shift forks.
You will need an impact driver, flywheel puller, case splitter, torque wrench and factory service manual, plus the normal screwdriver, pliers, etc.. Alternate to the special tools is taking it to the dealer and say "Fix it". I often tell people to take it to the shop just so they don't get into such an involved project and they now have a knowing eye and experienced hands working on the problem.
The repair cost will probably be $800 or so.

The bike downshifts OK, when in 1st it wont upshift normal. If you flip shifter up it will go into other gears but sparatic. No fall or anything out of the normal before this happend. The bike only has 23 hrs. on it.

Will not shift into first gear

Sounds like your clutch is out of adjustment, or needs to be bled. Most of the ktm's use a Magura hydraulic clutch which can be bled using Mineral Oil. DO NOT USE BRAKE FLUID.

I have a 99 ktm sx 125 and when i try to shift to 2nd it will often go into neutral instead i change the oil every 5 hours

Thank you for contacting FixYa with your inquiry. I have been going
over some of the older help requests that have been archieved and
trying to provide solutions for those that didn't get answered. Hope
this information helps.

You might have bent shifting forks or the dogs on the gears are worn. That would be a case split and Removal and Repair of bad parts.

TRY THIS FIRST:
Work on your shifting technique. When you want to shift from 1st to second apply up pressure with your toe and roll the throttle off and let it pop into gear. Don't use the clutch other than for starting or a few suituations where you need to idle while in gear. You might not be allowing the transmision to pull 2nd gear all the way in and it drops back to neutral.

Hope this helps.

I have a 250sx and had the same proble my kicker wont go down what do i do

did you recently overheat the engine? it may be locked up. put the bike on a milk crate so the back wheel is off the ground. put the tranny in 3rd gear, and spin the back wheel. if the wheel wont turn, you burned up your motor, (seized your piston to the cylinder by overheating or running out of oil) or fried your transmission. if it turns the motor, you probably broke a tooth on the kicker gear anddthe broken piece is stuck in the gear..

How do I remove the transmission from a 08 ktm 144 sx ?

You'll need to remove the top end (cylinder and head. Then remove the rest of the engine from the frame. Remove all side covers. Using the proper puller, pull the flywheel and remove waterpump. Remove clutch basket and primary gear from crank and transmission shaft. Remove drive sprocket. Remove all case bolts and using a case splitting tool, pull the 2 case halves apart to expose crankshaft and transmission. This is a very involved project and having a manual for reference and scematics is highly recommended.

My ktm 65 sx gear shift wont select down

not sure bout that bike specificaly, probly there is a spring on the gearshift shaft , or something to return the lever and shift drum back whenever actuated. no matter what it is, you gotta split the cases to fix it .

Gear box goin in to gear but still like it is in nutural

If you select a gear without pulling clutch in it will grind and stall.
If you are certain the bike is engaging a gear and still seems it is in neutral, your clutch drive is broken.
Alternatively, the gear selecter fork bolts maybe loose behind the sidecover, allowing selector to partially engage only and return to neutral. Try selection thru' higher gears, place bike on a stand and turn back wheel in gear, if gears turn and motor doesn't...it is the clutch. If you cannot select a gear proper with rear wheel turning, your selecter is suspect.
Goodluck, and Cheers.

Clutch dont work

This is a easy fix. All you have to do is let the bike warm up a few minutes before you take off. I would like you to try it your way first. Then let it warm up for 5 mins then see what happens, you can warm it up faster by reving the engine but let it run for 1 min before you rev it up. Enjoy your riding.
