Sending unit where can I buy a new fuel sending unit

Yes. The fuel pump is inside the gas tank. You do not have to replace the gas tank with a new one. But you need to buy and replace the wiring harness and gasket for the fuel sending unit too. I would buy and replace the fuel filter first, before doing the major repair. It should be located under the car on the fuel line. They should be replaced every 25 to 30 thousand miles.

This is nothing more than the tank sending unit that has failed. I would look into a junk yard and see about buying a complete unit(pump/sending unit assembly). It will be substantially less than new. Let me know if you need instructions on repair.

it is located in the fuel sending unit at the top of the tank. You have to remove the tank to get to it.

The sending unit has issues. You'll probably have to drop the tank to reach it. Once you do, reach in and pull out the sending unit. Be careful not to break any of its wires. Best bet at first is to clean up the contacts and terminals (and anything else electrical) with electrical contact cleaner, then plug it in and see if it reads correctly. If it doesn't, you'll need a new sending unit.

I just fixed that problem in my 87 Toyota pick-up. My fuel gauge showed FULL all the time. The sending unit in your fuel tank has probably croaked. I had to drain the fuel tank, remove it, and try to remove the screws that hold the sending unit in. The screw heads ALL snapped off due to them being 21 years old. Ended up having to buy a new fuel tank, as we couldn't get the broken ones out of the tank. Found an aftermarket new tank for about $275 at Advance Auto. Sending unit is only avaliable from Toyota for about $125.
