Someone put regular car coolant in the bike that left a build-up in the bottom of the resivor. Ran just fine till i changed the coolant (with kawasaki brand), then it started boiling in the resivour and overflowing out the bottom of the bike (temp. 235 degrees). So I changed the thermostat seemed to be fine for couple of days. I only take 15 minute rides to and from work. now it is not boiling over or expeling fluid but still gets to 236 degrees. When the fluid was origionally flushed, (with water), no particles were present. After I changed the thermostat some particles were present in the fluid and there was some white chunks behind my thermostat i belive it is from the car coolant that was origionally in it. have not checked the water pump yet. and the fan is operating I suppose. I really just have 3 questions. 1. what is good operating temp.? 2. is it possible that my fan is not coming on at the correct temp.? 3. if it were a head gasket should I be able to tell by looking at the oil window for cloudy or milky oil?
1. I have an 02 and just normal riding temp for me is 170-188. 2. Yes that is possible you can get a toggle switch from any auto part store and rewire the fan so you can turn it on when you want. Thats what I did and I turn mine on around 175 just to be safe. 3.Yes you would be able to see it through the oil window.

hope you ran it till it warmed up to make sure its not just moisture ,if it still has water running out tail pipe head gasket is the problem ,check your coolant resivor ,for pressure and or the smell of exhaust .
The overflow is a result of the constant overheating, check your fuse and your fan relay, if those are both fine, then wire your fan direct to a power source and see if it comes on if it does your last spot to insoect is the temperature sensor located in the radiator, its going to be one of those things for sure
After letting a bike idle for 30 minutes it would make me suspect that the bike was overheating...its not good to let a bike idle that long.. this is one of the two reason that California lets bikers split lanes... one is motorcycles will take up less space in traffic and the other is that it gives a chance to keep the bikes engine cooler with a constant airflow over the engine. Now , #1 check radiator coolant level, if low, top it off with coolant. #2 if the bike idles fine after "approx". 5-10 minutes ( normal operating temp)...and your not overheating, then continue to let it idle till it gets to "around" 185 degrees or so..if you don't hear the fan come on, then get on your bike and ride it around the block to cool the engine down, if that helped then you know its a bad fan, or bad thermostat/fan switch. The trail of water you saw could also have come from the coolant overflow tank hose at the bottom of the bike when it was overheating...make sure that the coolant reserve tank is filled to the appropriate level. Also check your oil to make sure that it doesn't have water in it..if it does...it"ll appear like a bubbly milkshake; if the oil is good, then chances are good that at least no internal damage was done. If after all this and it doesn't overheat and the fan comes on! then you"ll have to pull your fairings and check "all" the hoses for leaks. Hope this helps you out. hi.....take the radiator cap off....run the bike like this till it gets warm& it should bleed its self up & you can put more water in if & when required...also ..check if there is not a bleed screw somewere on the cooling system!!......
With the 05 I would check the thermostat. With the 03 that is normal, my 02 cuts on and off around the same range. I put a switch in so I could turn my fan on when ever I wanted. I run mine once I get to 175...
