Your timing is integrated with your electronic ignition, very little moving parts and no direct contacts to wear down. Odds of it going out of time are slim to none, unless the shaft which spins the sensor is worn.

Ignition timing for suzuki vitara

A LOT depends on WHICH ENGINE your 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara is equipped with.Ignition timing is not adjustable on any engine except the 2.5L V-6.
To adjust the ignition timing on the 2.5L V-6, a scan tool must be used to turn off the computer timing control to check and adjust base ignition timing. Base ignition timing specification is 4-6 degrees BTDC.

Is there any way to check the timing on my 85 Honda NV400 custom without taking the heads off?

for valve timing you should only need to take rocker covers off, the same as checking valve clearances.

a timing light will check ignition timing through the timing plug on the crankcase.

Why do you think the timing could be out??
valve timing is not adjustable once initially set up.
ignition is electronic so it doesnt change, like a points ignition can

Intermittant stuttering/surging when starting

Rough idle or stalling. Ignition timing is controlled by the electronic control ignition timing system. The standard reference ignition timing data for the engine operating conditions are pre-programmed in the memory of the engine control module (ECM). The engine operating conditions (speed, load, warm-up condition, etc.) are detected by the various sensors. Based on these sensor signals and the ignition timing data, signals to interrupt the primary current are sent to the ECM. The ignition coil is activated, and timing is controlled. Check for any fault at: Spark plugs faulty Replace plugs Ignition wiring faulty Replace wiring Ignition coil faulty Replace ignition coil High tension cord faulty Replace high tension cord
