Vin/chassis number tells me my car is a 2006 model, but the compliance plate says it is a 2008 model?

I have checked with registration authority's and they have told me that according to their records it was first registered in 2008 and its a 2008 model, which on the compliance plate it says 04/08 but the sticker in the drivers door says MFR (build) 6-06, and according to the information i have gathered from technical support the ninth and tenth symbol in the vin/chassis number states month and year of build or release date which is 5 and 6. How is this even possible ? Could this be a big mistake made when the car was first brought to Australia/made? Or was i ripped off 1 year ago?

The build date doesn't necessarily indicate the model year of the vehicle. You can have a car built in 2006, but it's a 2007 model.

The vehicle could also be compliant for 2008 standards, even though it was built in a different year.

The VIN is what you should go by. If you are worried I would check that the reg. authority has the correct VIN.

It is possible that the silicone has penetrated some of the contacting surfaces in the switch and this is causing some internal failure. You will need to be evaluated individually and cleaning these components.

I do not think this has caused some electrical short involving blown fuse, but I could be wrong (the silicone spray is non-dielectric). Meanwhile, I will seek some fuse diagram for your model and year.

SOURCE: code po455 2004 chrysler sebring 2.4l sohc G vin code

The code is for a large leak in the fuel tank or evap system.

Some possible cause are - a leaking fuel tank, gas cap, hoses to and from the vapor canister and engine, and a faulty canister.
It's possible a valve is stuck open and allowing the engine to pull fumes in when the system is supposed to be closed, but if this were the case the computer should also set a code for that valve.

Here is the definition.

P0455 CHRYSLER Description The Evaporative emissions (EVAP) system is design to prevent the escape of fuel vapors from the fuel system. Leaks in the system, ca allow vapors to escape into the atmosphere. The leak detection system tests for EVAP system leaks and blockage.

During the self-diagnostics, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) first checks the Leak Detection Pump (LDP) for electrical and mechanical faults. If the first checks pass, the PCM then uses the LDP to seal the vent valve and pump air into the system to pressurize it. If a leak is present, the PCM will continue pumping the LDP to replace the air that leaks out. The PCM determines the size of the leak based on how fast/long it must pump the LDP as it tries to maintain pressure in the system.

Toyota Australia say they cannot tell me the year of manufacture of my diesel Liteace truck Model S-CM51-TBSDS and Frame CM51-0003968 can you?

Fixya doesn't have that info, but..........

This is very puzzling. The build date should be clearly visible on the compliance plate which all registered motor vehicles in Oz must have. Then, what is on the rego paper, if any? The original information is supplied by the Toyota dealer when first sold.

If you can find the VIN number (that frame number isn't a VIN, which must be 17 characters in length, not less) on a compliance plate you can begin a trace through the Motor Registry in your State. It might be necessary to pay a search agency. If there is not a compliance plate, ask the Motor Registry what to do next.

A less reliable way to trace this history is to try the engine number, but that can of course be swapped.

Hi we are having a debate about vin numbers on the 2010 nissan maxima. Would you be able to tell us how many are there and the locations?

Almost all vehicles are similar.
There are typically 3 locations:
1) On the dash in front of the driver. Read by looking through the bottom of the windshield.
2) On a plate on the drivers side door frame. Visible when door is open.
2) On the registration documents that are supposed to be kept in the vehicle with proof of insurance.

Need to find reg number

To get the registration, you will need to get ahold of your State motor vehicle department. If the vehicle is registered to you, they should have record of it. They should be able to look up the registration by your name and the VIN number. The reason you can not look up the registration on-line is that the Beetle is old enough it does not use the standard 17 character VIN system that has been in place since the late 70's.

the only ones who could tell you the year and place of assembly from the chassis number is the parts department of the local mazda dealer ,but another good guide is the glass in the windows ,where it says toughened ,somewhere under a letter in the word toughened is a dot ,well this dot signifies the year of manufacturer of the glass ,but i cannot remember what year is what as to the relation of the dot .Also most engines have the same last 5 numbers as the chassis number so yours could have another engine from a scrap`yard which is why your asking what year is the car as its not lining up when you look in a manual ,if in any doubt check the chassis number stamped into teh chassis not the vin plate on the front of the vehicle

I need to find the v.i.n/chassis number on my 1983 ford laser, can someone tell me where it is?

On the firewall indentiplate , On one of the door wells on a sticker and on many models if you look thru the front windshield there is a number up close to the glass. That is your VIN number. If you still can not find it in many states it is on the vehicle registration paperwork. Also if your Lic plates are the original ones, your insurance company can pull it up on their computer using the Lic Plate number. It is also on any SMOG certificate.

Thanks for using FixYa.
