2001 Kawasaki VN 800 Vulcan Drifter wiring diagram

I have a headlight problem it won't come on when I start the bike. I took the head light assembly apart and I got the head light to come on by applying direct power to head light and it stays on, the high low beam works and then I shut off the bike and start it again it will not come back on until I apply direct power to the headlamp, all other lights work fine. Can someone please help me with this please, also cleaned all connections.

SOURCE: headlight wont light

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Depending on the version, normally there would be two (2) relays for most Kawasakis that control the headlight(s). Often the hi-lo relays (with white connectors) would be behind the gauges. Again depending on the model, some would not have a headlight on/park/off but only hi-lo as the headlights automatically switch on when the engine is running.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: when starting bike headlights always

Change bulb?

You should ride with high beam in bright daylight anyway (for safety) unless it is exceptionally bright.

Need radator for kawasaki vn 1500 classic tourer 2001 is the driffter the same radator as the vn 1500 classic plz hellllllllllllp

TO ALL VN1500 OWNERS....This once happen to me,
I went to the garage to start the bike "Nothing ""The first thing is the lights are bright but no turning over,Next you think the solenoid is kaput but the answer was very simple and the fix takes 30 seconds..
Do not take the bike to bits looking for other problems and look at the clutch leaver and you will see some wires going into a plastic shroud going into the switch in the clutch leaver, Make sure this has not popped out if its connection as it some times may do after a few years due to constant turning on the handlebars,
When this is not connected you will have a bike that will not fire up but comes alive and you will hear a clicking noise but this is from the engine carb area and every function of the bike will work but it will not turn over, Worth looking at and saves sixteen quid for a starter unit you never needed.

The oil light come on and off all the time I now oil in I chang it Kawasaki 2003 805cc drifter

Check the oil pressure switch, make sure the wire is securely attached, i am not sure where it is located on your bike but if your oil is full and your engine has oil pressure than your oil switch on the motor is more than likely your problem

Does anyone know if a Drifter 1500 tank will fit a Drifter 800? Thanks!

I am not positive, but I know the bikes have different frames. As a rule of thumb, Kaw will make slight changes so the parts will not interchange. You can go to ronayers.com and look up the microfiche on both bikes to see if the tank part numbers are the same.

I am about to buy a 1998 vn 1500 kawasaki -

NO theres not. i own this very same bike i have the 99 1500 drifter #0791 last 4 of vin. the only quirk with this bike is the clutch springs. they were weak but if this bike has over around 20k miles you should be good because someone else probally has replaced them, if not its a simple quick repair. but if you have to replace them just upgrade to the mean streak spring they will fit, they are a different part number but they will fit. its an hour and a half job to replace them. i have done about 10 of these in the last few years for customers. if any further questions contact me on here and we can go over this on the phone. i am a kawasaki vulcan nut. i own 2 of these bikes one being the 1500 drifter the other a 02 800 drifter.
