Noisy clutch in ZZR250

My sons zzr250 has developed a loud knocking noise when at idle. The noise quietens when clutch is pulled in and disapears when put into gear or increase motor revs.Can some one advise what is causing this noise and how to fix it?

Thanks Dennis

I suggest you dont run the engine as it sounds that it could be very drastic inside.you will have to strip the engine to find the fault.good luck.

Kawasaki ZZR250 (EX250H) bike won't start.

Question edited heavily into written English.
Question moved to model category.

First get the battery load tested. Sometimes there isn't enough amps to turn the starter and supply enough power to the ignition as well. Check all 4 spark plugs for condition and gap.

My ignition relay fuse meltted

no there should be no difference in the fuses but it sounds like you have more of a problem than the fuse i would recommend taking it to a kawasaki dealer or auto electrician hope this helps

My 1992 zzr250 kawasaki it turns over no problem but it just won't fire and I have checked s/plugs, fuel and they seem ok is this comon and how do I fix it?

I posted a similar problem on my Kawa Vulcan. The coils work, there is power, but no spark at the plugs itself. I heard that it might be a "stator pickup" problem, but waiting for an answer as well !

Die on sidestand

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To your query, no, the ZZR250 should continue to idle. If the engine dies while idling, it indicates that the engine has starved for fuel which then could be caused by:
  • clogged / blocked idle jets;
  • too much air (air filter removed or replaced with open / free breathers such as those by K & N);
  • too little vacuum on the intake manifold hence the petc0ck closes and fuel is not allowed to flow to the carbs. Try setting petcock to PRI;
  • carbs are not in balance/sync.

Solution would require carb pulldown, checking / cleaning. Completely dis-assemble and soak non-rubber parts in carb cleaner. The idea is to descale / remove the varnish like film coating that would have developed. This would also ensure that the idle jets are not clogged. Note how many turns the air idle mix (pilot) screw is set to.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa. Happy Holidays.

I have a major tapping noise from a 3lt diesel turbo toyota surf .constant loud tapping ,quietens with oil pick up a little. not a knocking just a tapping

lifters noisy,lots of miles on engine?as oil pressure gets higher and engine warms up(everything expands a little and quietens a little)it gets better,try fresh oil thats thicker for worn engines,and or check tappets(valve adjustment)if its applicable to this engine

My ZZR250 have no spark at all.

the spark is attributed to the coil. Use a multitester to test for continuity on the terminals. No response means no connection. Another way to test this without the use of a multitester is to switch the coil with a working coil. If it still doesnt have that spark but works with the other connection. then check the CDI.
