Check the idle, and seems to need a carburetor job, get iridium sparckplugst that will help too. But carb is the main reason

Yep! Mine started doing this and I left it,
After a couple of months it started cutting out when cold.
Clean the carbs and problem will be gone also the bike will be reborn!

Hi, my zzr 250 hadn't been started for about 8 months, so it fired up nicely with the choke on but once the bike warmed up I couldn't get it to idle once the choke was off, i tried more air to the carby...

Could be one of two things
1. The carbs are gummed up. Modern fuel will break down after only a few months. The idle jets are quite small and will easily become blocked. Strip and clean the carbs.
2. The throttle cable is sticky. Less likely, but possible. Make sure it opens and snaps shut easily.
What do you mean when you say you tried more air?

I have a 2003 C2H zzr 1200. Does not always fire up when starting, and if doesn't catch first time tends to flatten battery quickly when trying to start and smells strongly of fuel when doing so.

Sounds like you are twisting the throttle while cranking. 4 strokes hate that. If that isn't the problem then try using half choke and no throttle. If it kinda "Pops" is what u mean by "catch the first time" then definately switch the choke to halfway after it "Pops".

My zzr 600 was running and then just quit. I

Mistake #1, never try to jump start a motor bike, you may have blown the on board PC unit, best bet is to take it to good Kawka mechanic and let them fix it, bikes these days are fairly complicated..
