Bike cuts out on half a fuel of tank

Odds are that if it sat for a year with fuel in it, the carb may be gummed up. Opening the throttle will cause an immediate engine stop if it is not getting fuel.

I'd recommend a "clean out the carb" project, including using air to blow out allof the small orifices.

Its either not getting fuel, poss blocked mainjet, or float needle valve, do you have a constant flow of fuel from the tank, is the bike smoking exsessivly, sounding quieter than it used to do? Maybe the exhaust has become blocked, this was a common factor on this bike, remove exhaust look up exhaust port towards piston, with the piston at the top clean the port with a sharp object scrapeing away all the unburned carbon, start bike up without exhaust and check how it runs,

hi, first thing you should do would be, to remove the fuel from the exhaust, you may have to remove it to do this, it must be that while the bike was standing the fuel has leaked from the tank, through a sticking float valve, into the engine through the inlet valve which must have been open at the time, and filled the cylinder with fuel, when your friend has attempted to start the bike the fuel has been blown into the exhaust, and lay here untill the bike fired and run, this is most common on two stroke engines, normaly a four stroke in this position would hydrallic,

the fuel will eventualy clear as the bike is running,

your best bet would be to remove the float bowl from the carburettor, and check the opperation of the fuel cut off valve, this may have become contaminated by old fuel which forms a varnish type substance when allowed to stand,
the cut off valve is located under the float which you will carefully remove, place a clean cloth or similar under the carb where you are working, if any parts fall onto the paper, you will quickly find them, i hope this advice is clear and meaning full, if you require any further help , feel free to contact me , paul

No the fuel pump will not fail more than once. When a fuel pump goes out it just goes. Will not work after that what so ever. Sounds like bad gas lines. I had this problem. I replaced my old gas line after the old one cracked when I did this I cut the new on to long. When I put my tank back on the old one pinched. It would run fine for a few min then sputter and die as the gas in the line ran out. I let it sit for a min and more gas filled the line and would start the process over. Try replacing the fuel lines and make sure they are cut to the right length and do not kink when the tank is on. It could also be a dirty petcock. I had let my bike sit for 6 months while in another state and the gat tank got dirty somehow. I got it running and same problem putters and dies. Neighbor took out the petcock and used an air hose to clean it out and it worked like new.

When you let it sit did you remove all the fuel or add a additive? If you did not then I would recommend that you remove all the fuel and add brand new fuel to your system. Gasoline only last for about 3 to 4 months before it will start to go bad and this sounds like your problem

Did you put a new battery in it? If not have it load tested and replace if needed. Check the grounds and make sure they are clean and tight. Check the stator by going to the plug on the right front down tube, with a muti meter take a reading with the bike running on the side that goes back toward the engine, I forget the values but you should get a reading at idle and then as you rev the motor the reading should climb. If all of the above check out OK the problem will be your voltage regulator.
