Your alarm probably has an 'anti theft shutdown' which means you will get no power to the ignition switch (key/tumbler) to the starter. You need to determine what alarm system is installed in your vehicle. Normally if your system has that feature it would have to be dealer repaired or find a repair shop the installs alarm systems and have it checked out and/or removed or rewired if all you want is the alarm to activate a horn or siren and not disable the vehicle from starting.
I would check every single fuse in the car. Blown fuses can cause weird issues like this. While the initial issue with the mechanic does sound like an alarm problem....the rest does not unless the shop that installed it really butchered the job.
Car starts up then shuts off. Theft light comes on. Took it to the dealer to diagnose. Result was bad "pass lock sensor". Dealer wanted $300 for the part and with labor they wanted to charge $615. yea right. Found online that this system can be bypassed with keyless entry module. www.gmpasslock.com. Ordered part #PLJX for $79 and had it installed at Alarms etc. in tampa florida on nebraska ave for $75. Their number is 813-971-5950. Ops ck good
Your system is in valet. To take the system out of valet with remote: open any door, press lock, unlock, lock. Now check the LED; it should be off. Close the door and arm the system to check.
OR
Turn the key on then off. Within ten seconds press and release the valet switch. The LED should be off now. Close the door and arm the system. The alarm should chirp to confirm that it is armed.
Thats why you dont take your vehicle to some kid at the stereo shop without a wirnig diagram to poke around and screw up your car. You should have OK'd the Honda dealer to fix it, and have the manager from the steroe shop pay for any repairs. Sounds like a bunch of parts changers are just replacing parts without testing. Once you buy parts like that, there's no refunds.
I had the same problem, i had to remove the whole alarm system to get my car to start, when you unattatch the battery cables, the alarm notices the battery drain and sets the alarm off, i have no idea how much the dealership would charge for a new remote, but im sure its pricey, i would recommend just removing the alarm system, temporarily, until you can get a new remote. Good luck and god bless
that red LED is the Alarm, if its solid red, its fine; blinking is about to trigger I think and off means the Alarm is active and opening a door will set it off.
as to why it wont start...not a clue, check gas, make sure its in park, you said its turning over but not firing, perhaps its a bad sparkplug or just flooded...
the jetta has a faulty alarm system from the factory i have been working on one in my shop. the alarm moddule is inside the dash behind the light switch and has a 10 pin connector and a 6 pin connector. this can be bypassed if you disconnect both connectors and jump the two large wire on the 6 pin connectors, these wires operate your starter. the car will start and run but your alarm will no longer be active. the door locks and everthing else will still work. the only issue i am having is the factory radio isn't working because it is controlled by the alarm. but worse case scenario i can use an aftermarket radio if need be.
