SOURCE: remove ignition switch from 2000 harley-davidson

To remove the ignition switch turn the handle bar fully to the right, turn the ignition switch to access position and with the key in the switch depress the tab under the switch with a small screwdriver (the tab is to the lower left under the knob) and while pressing down on the key, turn the key counterclockwise about 60 degrees. At that point the switch will pull out of the housing.

How do i replace 92 super glide speedometer ? cant get the odometer reset arm out, to get the unit out of the consol

There is a small screw in the center of the knob. If the screw head is worn or damaged, then the only option is to break the knob to remove to speedo. This is easily done with a pliers.

I have a Heritage Softail 2000 model. Could you please help me. how do you change the rear brake light globe. Also is it possible to lift the instrument panel as the leather phone pouch which goes under...

Depending on whether you have the "tombstone" type tail light or the standard tail light, take out the screws and remove the lens. You can get to the bulb once you remove the lens.

To remove the dash panel, remove the small screw inside the trip meter reset knob and pull the knob off in there is one. Then remove the center bolt or nut from the dash. Work the dash up and you'll see two prongs coming off the bottom side of the dash for the leather phone pouch. Raise the dash just high enough to push the pouch edge back under the dash.

I need to replace the ignition switch on a 1995 Harley Davidson FLSTN. I tried to remove the plate to get at the ignition but was unable to take the cover plate off the tank. Can you give me step by step...

If the ignition switch is under the dash that is on the tanks, you simply remove the small screw that holds the trip reset knob onto the speedometer and take the nut in the center of the dash off. The dash works up and off of the switch and speedo. That's all there is to getting the dash off. Sometimes it can be aggrevating due to the tight fit of the speedometer.

How do you remove the gas tank, I need to replace it ?

Your Heritage has two fuel tanks. Each half bolting to the frame. First remove the small screw that holds the trip reset knob on if your bike is equipped with one. Then remove the dash cover by removing the nut in the center of it and working it off the speedometer. Remove any cover over the split betweent he tanks and you may have to remove the seat as well. The seat is held on by two large bolts, one on each side that take 3/8" hex wrenches to remove.

Drain the tanks. There is a cross-over hose that connects the two tanks on the bottom front, disconnect this. Be prepared for gasoline to go all over the place or come up with a way to catch it. Needless to say, NO SMOKING. Disconnect any other hose or wires going into the tank.

Now, there are three bolts holding each tank half on. I usually take the right side tank off first. I take the lower front bolt out first, then rear bolt between the tanks, and then hold the tank against the frame and remove the upper front bolt. Then, use the same procedure to remove the other tank. The two tanks have a hose that connects them that runs right under the dash. This is a pressure equalization hose to equalize the air pressure in the two tanks.

Now, if your bike is fuel injected, you may have a fuel pump or something inside the right tank. Since I've never worked on that, I have no idea as how it comes out.

Good luck

How do I remove speedometer cable om 1993 heritage harleydavidson I can't get knob out of the side of the speedometer

Usually there is a very small screw that holds these knobs on. If you have to, you may have to hold the tripmeter reset knob with a pair of pliers to keep it from turning so you can get the screw out. This may ruin the appearance of the knob. You can purchase the knob seperately and they're aren't very expensive.

Other wise, about the only way I know of to get the dash cover off is lift the cover while tilting it to the right. Sometimes, it will come up and over the top of the speedometer enough to the get it off. I've also seen people extend the slot on the dash all the way down where the knob comes through turning it into a open ended slot so to speak.
