To replace the front sprocket follow the chain to the cover on the left side and remove it, loosen the chain tensioners on the rear axle, slide rear wheel all the way forward and remove chain. Then remove the bolt in the center of the front sprocket, change sprocket and reverse process for assembly. That is the process but if you are going to change the front sprocket you should change both sprockets and chain, as the chain stretches and will cause premature wear of the new sprockets. Complete sets can be found on Ebay for little money, maybe they are not the best but as long as you do not abuse them they will do until you get the money for a good set.

Slacken off chain, remove front sprocket cover (6mm hex keys), Remove centre bolt holding sprocket, and prise off sprocket, it's located on a keyway, fit new one in reverse order making sure the key is in place, replace cover and adjust chain. It is usual to change the rear sprocket and chain at the same time, they all wear together, if you just change one, it will wear quicker.

Procedure for chaincase removal front sprocket inspection 2002 1200s gfs

Remove the gearbox sprocket cover, this may mean undoing the gear lever, First put the bike in gear. This will lock the sprocket so you can undo the securing nut, you will also need to loosen the rear axle to allow the chain to be taken off the sprocket. Then remove the sprocket, refit is the same process in reverse. I would suggest you change the complete set (front & rear sprockets and the chain) that way you only have to take it to bits once. And it will also mean the chain lasts longer as the wear will be the same at both ends.

Timing chain 96 maxima broke

Check your owner's manual for the recommended mileage for replacing your timing chain. Replacement for a Nissan Maxima is 60,000 miles.2 Locate the timing chain. Replace it if the automatic chain adjuster (also known as the tensioner) is damaged or worn.3 Release the pressure in the fuel system, drain the cooling system and disengage the negative battery cable. 4 Undo the upper radiator hose, engine drive belts, power steering pulley and pump with bracket, air duct, passenger front wheel and engine side and undercovers, front exhaust pipe, cylinder head front mounting bracket and head cover, rocker cover, distributor and distributor cap and spark plugs.5 Take off the intake manifold support and move the No. 1 piston at "Top Dead Center" (TDC) of the compression stroke.6 Disconnect the cylinder head front cover, water pump pulley, thermostat housing, upper and lower tensioner and slack side timing chain guide, idler sprocket bolt, camshaft sprocket bolts, sprockets, mounting caps and camshafts. 7 Disengage the cylinder head with the manifolds, idler sprocket shaft, upper timing chain, center crossmember, oil pan and strainer assembly, crankshaft pulley, engine front mount and bracket and the front timing cover. Remove the oil seal and unfasten the timing chain cover, idler and crankshaft sprockets and the oil pump drive spacer. 8 Unfasten the timing chain guide. install Your Timing Chain 1 Grease the oil seal lip with engine oil and place it in the front cover. Verify that the No. 1 piston is at "Top Dead Center" (TDC) of the compression stroke. 2 Reconnect the crankshaft sprocket (marks should point toward the engine's front), oil pump drive spacer and timing chain guide and the lower timing chain. Line up all mating marks.3 Hook up the crankshaft sprocket and pulley, lower timing chain, front cover assembly, engine mount and front mounting bracket, oil strainer and pan assembly and center crossmember.4 Reattach the upper timing chain, idler sprocket (to the back side), cylinder head assembly, idler sprocket bolt and exhaust and intake camshafts. Place the intake camshaft knock pin at 9 o'clock and the exhaust pin at noon. Connect the camshaft bearing caps and distributor brackets and secure all mounting bolts.5 Eliminate any old material from the pan and cylinder block mounting surfaces. Rub on a 3.5 to 4.5mm bead of liquid gasket over the oil pan and cylinder block.6 Attach the upper timing chain to the idler sprockets and secure the cylinder head bolts.7 Refill the cooling system. Hook up the negative battery cable and any other disconnected items. Start the engine and look for leaks.

Trying to figure out out how and what will be changed by going from a 15T to a 14T on the front sproket while keeping the original size on the rear. It's on a 2006 Katana GSX 600F

Hello, you will have quicker take off (bottom end) and lose top end speed, you will have the same effect if you increase the teeth on the back sprocket, if you want more top end speed do the opposite. You are changing your front sprocket from 15 teeth to 14 teeth which is going to turn the sprocket on the front quicker causing the rear wheel to go quicker, but because your engine is going to get to its maximum output quicker meaning you will lose a little on your top speed. Keep in mind if it is only your front sprocket being replaced (reduced in T) you may need to shorten your chain, it is recommended you replace front and rear sprockets along with your chain for maximum life on all 3 parts.

Want to replace drive sprocket on motor how do you get it off

Your sportster is actually pretty easy to change the front sprocket on. On the right side of the bike, you'll see the rear brake master cylinder. The master cylinder must come off as well as the plate that the master cylinder sits on. To get this off, you'll have ot remove the brake pedal and the exhaust system.

Once you get the plate off, you'll need some special tools to remove and replace the front sprocket. You'll need a special socket to remove the large nut holding the sprocket on and a special device made to hold the sprocket so you can get the nut off and then back on with the proper torque.

In addition to changing the front sprocket, you'll also have to change the final drive belt to match the size of the rear sprocket and front sprocket combination.

Good Luck

Fitting a new front sprocket

HI, 1ST PLACE BIKE ON THE STAND REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION, YOU MAY NEED SOMEONE TO HELP YOU FOR A MOMENT, PUT THE MACHINE IN GEAR, THIS WILL ALOWE YOU TO UNDO THE SECURING NUT WITHOUT TURNING THE FRONT SPROCKET AT THE SAME TIME IF SOME 1 HOLDS DOWN THE REAR BRAKE THIS WILL ALSO HELP, ITS AN EASY TASK,ON SOME MODELS FAIRING SIDE PANNEL MAY NEED REMOVING, UNDO THE 8MM RETAINING BOLTS HOLDING THE COVER OVER THE SPROCKET, SOME OF THEM ALSO GO THROUGH THE SLAVE CYLINDER FOR THE CLUTCH, WHEN U ARE HAPPY ALL THE BOLTS ARE REMOVED GENTLY PRISE OFF THE SPROCKET COVER, THIS CAN SOMETIMES STICK SLIGHTLY ON THE DOWELS, WARNING NO EXSESS FORCE SHOULD BE USED TO REMOVE THE COVER IF ITS TIGHT THEN RE CHECK ALL THE BOLTS ARE REMOVED, WHEN COVER IS FREE LIFT UP AND TIE TO 1 SIDE LEAVING THE CLUTCH CYLINDER CONECTED. YOU WILL THEN SEE THE FRONT SPROCKET, SECURED BY A 14, OR 17MM BOLT AND WASHER, NOTE WASHER LOCATION AND REPLACE SAME WAY, YOU MAY ALSO NEED TO UNDO THE 17MM BLOTS TO ALOWE YOU TO SLACKEN OFF THE CHAIN FOR SPROCKET REPLACMENT, AFTERMARKET SPROCKETS DO NOT ALWAYS LOOK LIKE THE OE PART, REPLACE SPROCKET USING A GOOD LOCKING AGENT, AND REPLACE IN REVERSE

Chain

Yes. It’s likely that the sprockets are worn. Putting a new chain non a worn pair of sprockets will make the chain wear out faster—and replacing the sprockets without replacing the chain will sear out the sprockets. Do them as a set.
