From my personal experience I can tell you that more often then not fuel pumps fail internally and very sudden. Test the voltage coming from the two wires that are usually in a harness and clip assembly. turn your tester to dc volts setting and stick ends of probe of mulimeter into each respective hole and then attempt to START. this is only to test for starting voltage so it will not need to be starting for long as it only takes a second or two to allow you to read the voltage. If it has twelve volts or six whichever setup you have and you cannot hear any noise then try to tap it and free the solenoid to disengage it and buy you enough time to get a new fuel pump please send me a reply as to what happened and ill give you a call if you need help
Check the relay and fuse if they are ok check the power coming from the ignition switch make sure it is powering up that circuit if it is check the fuel pump
