Bike will turn over but fuel pump not powering up

Check out the system relay, otherwise it is the ECM that controls the system relay powers and that controls the fuel pump.

Check the fuel pump wiring for power, if there is power going to the pump, I'd say the fuel pump malfunctioned and has to be removed from the fuel tank.

There could be many reasons for this, some simple, some not so simple, so you will need to start by eliminating simple things first.

The first thing to check is the battery. Is it fully charged and in good enough shape to supply the electrical load needed to make the bike run correctly (bikes with electronic ignition and fuel injection must have a good battery for the bike to run properly)?

Next, take a look at your owners manual and find out if there is a fuse for the fuel injection system. If there is, is it good?

When you insert the key and turn the ignition on can you hear the fuel pump? If not, you fuel pump is either dead or not getting power for one reason or another.

Many cars are equiped with a safety switch which automaticly turns off the fuel pump in the event of an accident. These can be reset by simply pushing a button. Is your bike equipped with something similar?

When was the last time the bike was running? The gas sold today is notorious for not being stable for very long. If everything else on the bike checks out ok, there is a remote chance your injectors are clogged with bad fuel.

Turn the bike off with the kill switch. Turn the key and listen for the pump to prime.
If it doesn't.
Check all fuses.
Check your fuel pump relay fuse - try taking it out and putting it back in.
Check you main fuse next to the battery (30A).
If you replaced any fairings or did any modifications to the bike, make sure you didn't mess up the BAS\Roll over sensor as the bike may think its on its side and will not pump fuel.
Check all wires in the wiring harness make sure there is no corrosion and the fuel pump relay is getting power.

if bike has been sitting the pump may be locked up, also check the fuse for the fuel pump or the igntition to make sure it is good. check the voltage on the wires going to the fuel pump panel if you have power there for 5 seconds when you turn on key the pump is mosy likely the problem. Brian

My first question: is it ok to run the bike using only gravity fed fuel if I'm ok with a top end of only 60 mph, or am I damaging something else on the bike by doing that?
To answer your it, you fuel pumps still works and you are not doing anymore harm than possible.

YES, go to a bike dismantler/wrecker who does the same tipe of bike

BAD STARTER SWITCH

most all bikes i"ve worked on have fuse protection. i"ve been on this site for awhile and have seen many questions about fuel pumps, but so far nobody has ever included in their diagnoses that there bike starts and runs fine. but i myself can see why.. because i ran into the same problem with my old cbr..it just wasnt running fine, seemed like a fuel issue so i turned the key on and tried to listen for a pump sound and found none, so i purchased a new pump, and installed it and turned the key and was so happy to hear the pump sound, fixed right! no, i turned it off and tried it again and then no sound, and in my mind im saying oh no! i just burnt up a new pump, but i said i"ll find out for sure so i took the old pump and reinstalled it (minus all the fuel that was left in it when i dumped it out)... and i turned the key on and voila! i heard the noise and now knew that i wasted $75 bucks! But, oh well, i got a spare now..i talked to another mechanic friend of mine about this problem and he been working on bike for over 40 years and he said you'll know if you have a fuel pump problem if you start to loose power in the upper rpm ranges... it"ll demand more fuel then its getting..so when the fuel pressure is correct i'm guessing that the fuel pump doesnt need the prime on all the time. but just to appease myself, i took the fuel pump hose off the fuel filter that was from the pump and ran it to a gas can and i started the bike and saw and felt the fuel squirtting out of the pump...but then i still had to correct the hesitation problem, so i heard about this Sea Foam cleaner stuff that can be purchased from Autozone $10 a can, pour in 1/3 can to 2 gallons fuel..bike was hard to start but would always push start.. so i got it started and ran it for about 11 miles before the stuff had eatin away at whatever was clogging up my carbs and it worked ever since then..so you might want to give this a try.

This could be a number of things - the power is interlocked by the neutral switch/side stand relay - bike must be in neutral OR the sidestand must be up in order to get power to the fuel pump relay.

Things to check:
Fuses for ignition and fuel pump
sidestand up &/or bike in neutral (neutral light displayed)
kill/run switch in 'run'
sidestand relay
fuel pump relay
Tip Over Switch

it sounds like the diaphram inside the pump has gone.this happend to my fzr and the only fix is to replace the pump. hope it helps
