You don't want to start throwing money at this thing without knowing what the problem really is; Yes, it could be a module or a coil, but it probably isn't. Electronic parts don't usually suffer from idleness, fuel systems do. The first clue is that it sat for 7 months and then ran for fifteen seconds. The fix's you try first for are the cheap ones. I would suspect a fuel problem; gas doesn't like to sit around for 7 months. Does the van have a carb or is it fuel injected? Carbs can varnish up from gas sitting in them; spraying carb cleaner in and around them will often loosen things up, in a worst case it'll have to come off the motor and be rebuilt. If the gas tank was low on gas for that seven months you'll probably have a lot of condensation in it. Water doesn't burn, so that'll keep it from starting and running, a couple of cans of Heet (isopropyl achohol) will usually fix that. If there's dirt in the system, the fuel filter will probably need to be changed. If those things don't help, you'll find it much less frustrating and usually cheaper to tow it to a reputable shop. They'll fix it right the first time.

The van is an 87 ford econoline,it does have a carb. The first time it started it was running for 15-20 minutes. The second time it started was only for a few seconds.Today,I just went out and and it turned right over, then shut off after 5 seconds. I have put new gas with old gas and stp gas cleaner two days ago. The van did not just sit for 7 months, it was started and left running 10-15 minutes at a time every 3-4 days those 7 months. Both gas tanks were at 1/4 tank each. The carb. does open and shut,it is getting gas.Any more advice would be very helpful.
