Bike shuts off enxpectedly

Bikes runs great and idles with no problem. Occasionally it loose power and shuts off completely. After I pull over I can re start it within 2 or 3 tries of the start button and again runs fine. It happens on the Highway at 70 mph and at traffic light at idle. It appears to be a little more frequent when the bike is warmed up. Thanks Roberto

Just a guess, have you checked the ignition coils? One may have a crack in the wound wire. When it warms it opens then closes when it cools down. There are a number of things that can cause your problem, but I would start with the ignition system.

Hi,
The first thing you need to check is the air filter. Sometimes critters can get into the airbox when a bike sits for awhile. Sounds crazy, but it has happened to me. If nothing is blocking the filter, give it a quick clean since you have it out.
Next things to check:
Faulty diaphragm
Improperly adjusted fuel level
Clogged or loose main jet
Faulty fuel pump
You may not be able to check these on your own, but these are the next likely culprits.

Check for vacume leaks first. Rubber lines..gaskets to carbs ect. Also remove and blow out your fuel line to tank and change out filter. Hope this helps.:)

sounds like a camshaft chain broke. remove camshaft covers and check the cahin on both cylinders.

This sounds like an air leak ahead of the carbs. Air that hasn't gone through the carbs is leaning the fuel/air mixture. Cracked rubber fittings, "O" ring seals, gaskets, and clamps between the carbs and the cylinder may not be sealing well enough. Note that a bad head gasket, bad valves or loose spark plug can also let air enter. The problem will get worse as time goes by. Do a compression check to check the valves.. Burned valves and cracked rubber seals are normally the culprits. Usually, all the valves need is to be re-lapped to provide a fresh face on the valve and valve seat. I have a peugeot 50cc scooter which when cold will start but dies immediately, after a few starts it will run but as soon as you rev will die again.

Has it been serviced recently? Check the basics for petrol engines. Clean air filter, clean fuel filter, clean oil and oil filter. Is the battery fully charged? Is there fuel in the tank? (Yes, I've done that one). If there is a fuel tap fitted to the bottom of the tank? Is it in the open/run position?
Yours sounds like a fuel supply issue. How old is the bike? Does it idle smoothly when it does run? A good starting place is the fuel pump. Some scooters use a vacuum system for the fuel pump and the rubber diaphragm inside the pump wears out. This doesn't pull the fuel through fast enough and leaks air into the fuel system. This starves the engine of petrol, causing it to stall.
A lot of older bikes also use carburetors which need to have the fuel jets and idle jets cleaned occasionally, especially if there has been poor quality fuel in it at some time. Newer bikes use an injector which can clog up as well but this is less common.

Bike dies when put in gear

Hi Ron, I would check the clutch interface switch at the clutch lever it sounds as if it is either faulty, broken, come loose or stuck. Some bikes have loads of problems with this beastie. Pull in the clutch lever then try spraying some lube between the lever and the stock and see if you can see the switch plunger move. You might have to remove the clutch lever completely to see this if you do then you should be able to push the plunger in by finger and see it spring back out. The whole switch does in some cases come loose if you look for 2 wires going into the clutch lever stock see it the thing they go into is loose or pushed out, normally they just push back with a slight click. When you operate the clutch lever the switch plunger should move out allowing the bike to start in gear. On my Suzuki you have to operate the clutch lever to start even in neutral. Hope this helps

Could still have a carb problem. Have you changed the fuel filter? That is always the first thing to do. Running on could also indicate a timing problem. How about the timing belts? have the been looked at lately? They may be stretch a bit or loose. Should not have to use premium in a Goldwing.

I have a 2004 honda shadow aero. When I was riding lasst weekend the bike shut off like it ran out of gas. It would turn back on, but when I gave it throtle it would die. I let it sit for a few hours and...

Sounds like the battery is dying. A low battery and/or bad stator or bad regulator will cause the battery to get low on voltage. Although enough to start the bike and idle, it will loose power to the coils under heavy throttle.

Kdx 200 clutch not engaging properly

The clutch in your bike is a wet clutch. There is a lot of hyrdostatic friction even when the clutch is released completely. I think a large factor is the type, age and condition of oil. Perhaps something as simple as an oil change would help.

2009 Street glide idles poorly, strong gas smell, stalls

The 09 models come with a "parade" mode which causes the rear cyclinder to quit firing when idling in traffic etc to combat over heating. You should be able to kick it on by rolling the throttle grip FORWARD for 5 to 10 seconds. Have you changed the pipes or air filter? If you have and never had the EFI adjusted (either factory download or fuel tuner installed) your bike could be running extra rich causing the over heating and eventual engine destruction. New Harleys run rich from the factory, any changes to the intake/exhaust system without proper fuel injection management will cause overheating. Try getting your bike into parade mode by rolling the throttle forward to the stops for a few seconds, that will cool things down.

Drives great but at/when drops to idle it stalls

When you are on the bike and riding do you still have the choke out? And stop spraying starter fluid into the carbs..bad bad bad.... bikes start with out that stuff and if you need it then something is wrong.. your gonna mess something up doing that....let me know about the choke and we will go from [email protected]
