Firstly, I purchase my intruder brand new 4 years ago and LOVE it except that it does not run properly in cold weather. It is not the bike temp that causes the problem but the wind chill. I could be riding for an hour without a problem but the moment the temp falls under 10 degrees Celsius (I’m in Australia) it coughs and splatters and stalls. It starts to smell weird and once it stalls it is difficult to start again. On the odd occasion it even stalls between gears.
I’ve taken it back to the deal multiple times; they have rebuild carbies, clean jets and 100 other things I don’t understand but the problem persisted. They finally decided to install a Carbie heater?? They claim that this is a known fault and the heater will fix it. It hasn’t fixed it... #@$@#$
I am interested if anybody else has experienced similar issues and how they may have solved it.
My partner has the same bike same problem same deal with the heater, We were told to rejet the carby and that will fix it. Dont know if it works as my partner bourght a new bike.
There are fuel antifreeze solutions available. Being from South Louisiana, USA, I don't use them nor do I know where to find them.

Thanks for your response tombones49. First question is how hard is it to drain the carbs? Secondly, wouldn't the carbie rebuilds fix this?
I appreciate your help.
Bill
No problem tombones49. I will try anything at this stage and your suggestions are much appreciated. I have been using the same BP petrol station since I've owned it (as suggested by the dealer)which appears newish but who knows. I've also switched around different fuels but have settled on standard unleaded. Almost got cleaned up again this morning when the bike stopped between 1st and 2nd. Doh
Let me know how things turn out.
Draining the carbs is very easy. There will be a large plug on the bottom of the float bowl or there will be a small bolt on the side of the float bowl near the bottom edge. Just unscrew it, let the gas drain, then put it back in place..Yes, the rebuild would remove any water. BUT, what if there is still water in the gas tank? What if condensation inside the gas tank adds to whatever water was still in the tank? How new is your local gas station? The older the station, the more likely the gas storage tanks may be rusty and letting ground water into the tank..Please understand, I am not saying water is the problem. I am saying water COULD be the problem.
Drain the carbs into a clear cup. Any water in the float bows? Water could be the problem when freezing temps come about.
