one way to tell if your engine is getting fuel is to turn the key but dont start it you should hear a buzz which indicates your engine is getting fuel if you dont hear the buzz you need new fuel pump. if you hear the buzz before it starts and are going only 25 check your transmission fluid make sure its not low and if its dirty change it asap it could fix your issue there, i could be wrong also but if you dont hear a buzz before you start your going to need new fuel pump and if youre doing this might as well change your fuel filter to. if it has to much dirt and is dirty you can lose pressure and your engine will run real lean.
88 didnt have carderator that was the first steady fuel injection my 87 is the last year for carderator but check for a vacum leak ull hear a wistling sound
got spark if do squirt some starting fluild in see if it will start if start you will have to check choke if ok then rebiuld carderator do this then let me no what happen
make sure it has gas and spark at plug if dose then take some starting fluid and sqiurt in it start it if runes rebuild carderator or seafoam fuel additive it cleans carbs excellent stuff add 4 cap to 3 gal tank let run three tank fulls through it most of the will run fine but sometime if carb to dirty have to rebuild carb and make sure no water in gas only use fresh gas sitting gas can get dirty
FIRST RELIEF FUEL PRESSURE BY REMOVING GAS CAP REMOVE FUEL PUMP RELAY START ENGINE UNTIL IT DIES LACK OF FUEL. FUEL FILTER IS MOUNTED TO THE RIGHT FRAME RAIL.NEAR THE FUEL TANK.YOU NEED A FLARE NUT WRENCH TO LOOSEN FUEL LINE AT FILTER AND A ADJUSTABLE WRENCH HOLD FILTER LARGE NUT WHILE LOOSEN FUEL LINE THIS KEEP FROM TWISTING FUEL LINES WHILE LOOSEN FUEL LINE.BESURE TO GO TO DEALERSHIP AND BUY NEW O - RINGS AT FUEL FILTER LINES.LUBRICATE NEW O- RINGS WITH CLEAN ENGINE OIL.WHEN INSTALLING NEW FUEL FILTER DONT OVER TIGHTEN FUEL LINES CUTTINGTHE O -RINGS AT FUEL FILTER.IF SO THEY WILL LEAK GAS WHEN YOU START UP ENGINE.WHEN DONE CHECK FOR GAS LEAKS WHEN DONE DONT DRIVE UNTIL YOU CHECK FOR LEAKS FIRST.
You may check first if all the fuel lines are completely filled with fuel (primed). Also check the fuel filters. Low power can also be caused by retarted ignition timing.
May not apply to yours, but I have seen coolant lines routed under intake (actually through plenum below carb)...the idea is to pre-heat and vaporize fuel to prevent "puddling" under carb. If you look at most v8 engines, exhaust is routed the same way, to do the same job. You may need to use a mirror to see under there to determine exactly what's going thats causing leak.
should have 12 volts at pump during engine cranking. with key in "on" position, the fuel pump only gets voltage for 2 seconds if engine is not running. Read voltage during cranking. Check fuel pump relay in battery jucntion box under hood.
