Oil light coming on and off after oil/filter change. Oil level is good

Drained oil from two places, 12mm drain plug about 4 inches in front of actual drain plug. changed oil and filter used penn-zoil 5-20 oil. Oil light comes on while I am riding the bike and stays on for about 2 minutes then goes off. It does this three or four times. What could be causing this problem? Oil level is good

You have to manually reset the oil change tripmeter and the oil change indicator after changing the oil.

However the intermittent nature of the oil warning may also indicate that the oil sensor system is faulty.

SOURCE: 92 honda cb 750, oil light will not go out, bike won't start

Look around the engine oil drain plug and fill area and see if there is an electric sending unit( small plug with a prong for a wire) that is screwed into the engine if so check to see if its unplugged / could be a low oil cut off switch that kills all power to the ignition if the oil is to low ( or the wire is unplugged)

SOURCE: I changed the oil and filter in my 2007 kawasaki

you probably have a leak! It is possible, (depending on what type of oil you put in)
that the oil dissolved the gasket, or removed sludge from an existing hole, causing it to open. but if you dont have any oil spots..well....thats a whole nother story.
terribly sorry!!
i hope this helps in some way!

SOURCE: oil light keeps coming on..checked

I would say it's the sensor, most bikes only read the oil level, they can't tell if the oil needs to be changed, that's something that your supposed to keep track of.

How to change oil

First find out what type of oil your car requires. examples are 5W 20 or 5W 30, These are examples of weight usually the manufacture list it on the oil cap. Then determine the type reqular or synthetic. As for brand thats up to you. Then make sure you have the filter. There are some that are screw on canister and some are oil filters.you need to know the part you require. Now for the oil pan there are different drain plug sizes some are starting at 12mm 13mm 14mm ect.. know your size. All in a nut shell you open drain plug let oil drain out. Install the drain plug, then reove oil filter, install new oil filter. Fill the engine in the engine oil fill cover and add (I always use 4 as start) you oil start at 4 quarts. Start the engine idle for a few seconds. check the oil level by using the oil dipstick. add if necessary, and recheck for leaks.

Where is the motor oil drain plug on flxh

This is straight from the repair manual:

1. Ride vehicle until engine is at normal operating temperature.
2. Locate oil filler plug/dipstick on right side of vehicle at top
of transmission case. To remove the oil filler plug, pull
steadily while moving plug back and forth.
3. Locate oil drain plug at front left side of the oil pan.
Remove the oil drain plug and allow oil to drain completely.
4. Inspect the oil drain plug O-ring for cuts, tears or signs of
deterioration. Replace as necessary.
5. Remove the oil filter as follows:
a. Obtain the OIL FILTER WRENCH (HD-42311). The
tool allows easy removal of the oil filter without risk
of damage to the crankshaft position sensor or
cable.
b. Place the jaws of the wrench over the oil filter with
the tool oriented vertically. See Figure 1-1.
c. Using a 3/8 inch drive with a 4 inch extension, turn
wrench in a counterclockwise direction. Do not use
with air tools.
NOTE
Use OIL FILTER WRENCH (HD-44067) if HD-42311 is not
available.
6. Clean the oil filter mount flange of any old gasket material.
7. Lubricate gasket with clean engine oil and install
new
oil
filter on filter mount. Hand tighten oil filter 1/2-3/4 turn
after gasket first contacts filter mounting surface. Do
NOT
use OIL FILTER WRENCH for oil filter installation.
NOTE
Use of the Premium 10 micron synthetic media oil filter is
highly recommended, Part No. 63798-99 (Chrome) or 63731-
99 (Black).
8. Install engine oil drain plug and tighten to 14-21 ft-lbs
(19-28 Nm).
9. With vehicle resting on jiffy stand, add 3-1/2 quarts (3.3
liters) engine oil as specified in Table 1-1. Use the proper
grade of oil for the lowest temperature expected before
the next oil change.

How do i change the oil...how much and what kind of oil do i use?

Manufacturer recommends "Suzuki Performance 4 Motor Oil". Actually, any SF or SG rated oil under the API service classification will suffice. 10W-40 is the recommended viscosity.

If you can not get 10W-40, the following are acceptable:

14 to 104 degrees F 20W-50
0 to 104 degrees F 15W-40 or 15W-50
-4 to 104 degrees F 10W-40 or 10W-50
-4 to 86 degrees F 10W-30

The Engine oil capacity on the VL 800 is:

3.2 U.S. Quarts (3000 ml) without a filter change

3.6 U.S. Quarts (3400 ml) with a filter change.

You are going to need a motorcycle lifting jack stand or similar device to properly accomplish the oil change. Before you start, locate the oil filter on the front side of the engine, between the engine block and the radiator. Read and copy down the number on the filter. The OEM filter is a Suzuki 16510-03G00-X07, I think.

Start raising the bike on the stand until level, then strap it securely to the stand. Put an oil catch pan/can, etc under the drain plug, which is on the bottom of the engine. Remove the drain plug and catch all the oil. Remove the oil filter. Before installing the new filter, lubricate the rubber gasket with a little of the old oil. Install the new filter, re-install the drain plug tightly and then fill with the above specified type and amount of oil.

There are a number of different places that will accept waste oil for recycling.

God bless and good luck!

How do I change the oil and filter on my car?

under the vehicle you will see a plastic cover under the engine, remove the 4 13 mm bolts and drop the cover (they give you an access port but its cleaner and easier to just take the cover off) the bolt to drain the oil is also a 13mm on the bottom of the oil pan facing the ground. drain the oil, put the drain plug bolt back in and tighten, don't over tighten! the filter is located up the front of the oil pan on the passenger side, only accessible from the bottom, remove the filter let the oil drain, put some fresh oil on the rubber seal of the new filter and install, make sure to follow the directions on the filter because it will tell you how many turns to put on the filter, overtightening will make it extremely difficult to take off next time! after that, clean up any oil left on the frame and oil pan and install the plastic cover with the 4 13 mm bolts, locate the oil fill cap, remove and refill the engine with the right oil (i believe its 5w30) untill it reads full on the dipstick, put the cap back on and start the engine and let it run for about 10 seconds, shut the engine off and recheck the oil level and fill as necessary. (if you have the 4.2 i think it takes 7 quarts, check your owners manual for the oil type and capacity to be sure) remember to turn the key on with the engine off and pump the gas pedal 3 times to reset the oil life indicator after the oil change is done, hope this helps!
