2010 Peugeot 207 gearbox drain/filler/level bungs

you will need to consult a manual, some gear boxes need a measured amount of oil in them and the only way to measure is to drain and measure, others have a filler plug on the side of the box and these type are filled with oil until it starts to trickle back out ,don't over fill

Its normally the big nut on the side of the gearbox, It's the filler and level (when it starts coming out)

transmission oil. check trans oil level and check on the side of radiator for trsnsmision leak on the trans line to and from radiator

First, refer to the dip stick top or the vehicle manual to identify which type of fluid to add to your transmission.
I presume you are referring to the more popular automatic transmission for many markets.


Run the vehicle until it is warm.


Remove the gearbox oil dipstick.


Jack the vehicle up a little if it helps, as you will need a drain tray and tool. Creep under the vehicle and remove the gearbox oil drain bung. It's usually at the lowest point, in the gearbox oil pan.


Drain the oil until you have almost no drips.


If you don't wish to replace the gearbox oil filter at this point, then procede to tighten the drain bung back into the oil pan/sump using a fresh washer if needed. Once tight (don't go mad as these can strip easily) you can procede to add your new oil.


You will likely need a very thin funnel to fit into the dipstick tube as this is where the oil is added on almost all Japanese models at least. If you can't find out how much oil to add to your vehicle, then add as much as you dropped out at first, or perhaps a little less as your fresh oil is cold as opposed to the expanded, warmer oil which came out.


Once added, start the vehicle, and go through the gears with your foot on the brake.
With the engine running and in Park, check the gearbox oil level.


You can often get false readings on the dipstick until all the oil you added to the dipstick tube has run into the gearbox, so you might want to check this after half an hour or so.


Run the vehicle, do a road-test, and then return and recheck for any oil leak at the drain bung and the oil level once again.


Gearboxes are very sensitive to having incorrect oil levels, so try to keep it as accurate as possible.

1) Purchase appropriate oil filter, sump drain bung washer and chosen engine oil.
2) Prepare an oil pan, sump bung wrench and oil filter removal tool (check access to oil filter to be sure that your tool is suitable.)
3) Run the engine until its warm to hot.
4) With the car jacked up and secured, remove engine oil filler cap and remove engine oil sump drain bung and allow oil to flow out into your drain pan. Keep an eye on your oil and make sure it doesn't overflow from your drain pan.

5) Refit sump bung with new washer and tighten. Do not over-tighten, and be especially careful when tightening into an alluminium sump.


6) Remove oil filter. Oil will flow out from this filter when removing, so your drain pan will need to be under the filter housing when removing.


7) Run a smear of clean engine oil around the filter rubber seal and refit new filter. Tighten hand tight only. Do NOT crank this filter super tight as you may damage the rubber seal and even the filter casing which can impede oil flow.


8) Refill engine with proper quantity of oil. If you cannot find how much oil your engine is supposed to take, then refill with the same quantity of oil which you drained out.


9) Restart the engine while checking the oil pressure warning light on the dash. The warning light may stay on for three or four seconds and then go out. If this light stays on for longer, then stop your engine and check for oil leaks at the filter body and sump drain bung.


10) Once the engine oil pressure warning light is off after starting, stop the engine and check the engine oil level (with vehicle on the flat and off any axle stands.)


11) Road test the vehicle, driving it for a mile or two before re-checking for oil leaks under the engine bay and engine oil quantity.

is this a manual or a auto ?? have to be carefull on this site as their mainly american and never seen a manual car let alone driven one ,if its manual then the drain plug will be on teh bottom of the diferential unit with a internal hexagon and the filler plug will be around the half way up the gearbox mark but it can vary between teh wheel side or the front on these cars fill with EP90 hypoid gear oil but in all honesty i never change manual gearbox oil it will last forever unless vehicle has been under water for whatever reason or i have done a clutch which means draining to remove the drive shafts .

Just checking.... it is a manual gearbox?

You may need a special tool for the drain plug and a 17mm allen key for the filler (some use the special drain tool for the filler as well)

The drain plug is located under the diff housing.

The filler plug is located on the left (nearside) off the gearbox (look to the left of the hole and you can see the 17mm hex filler bung).

Check you can undo the filler bung, then drain the gearbox oil.

Refit drain bung and fill gearbox through filler/level ********* until gearbox oil is up to the level of the filler bung.

Refit, test drive, check for leaks and retest level again when cold.

If you're not mecahnically minded, this isnt a job for you.
There is no filler cap for gearbox oil. The gearbox will have a level check plug, and a separte drain plug. Both will probably require a specific plug tool to remove (i.e. not just an ordinary spanner or socket), and can only be accessed from underneath the car.
Gearbox oil level has to be checked with the car level, so a garage will put the car on a lift so they can work underneath it. So, even if you jacked it up (never work under a car only supported by a jack ! Use ramps or axle stands as well) and could get at and undo the plugs, the car wont be level and therefore you wont put the correct amount of oil in.
Suggest you take it to a garage.

I dont believe thatford ********, ---get under the cruiser half way along the gear box on the left hand side you will find a bung plug 1/2way up the gearbox that is your filler and oil just dribbleing out that hole is the level.----at the back of the gearbox but attatghed to it is the transfer case this is made of aluminium,at the back of this slight y to the left about 1/2 way up is another bung that is the filler for the transfer case and also the level ,NOW LISTEN GOOD if you havea hose conecting the gearbox ******** to the transfer ******** thats good it just means the previos owner ,.or one of them had their head screwed on . W hat happens is this, strange as it seems the transfer case oil gets forced up into the gearbox,with the end result that the gearbox gets over full and the transfer gets low on oil,what we have been doing for many years is putting a bypass hose between the two fillers and as the oil gets forced up into the gear box it gravity feeds back down into the transfer case,,,so if you cant find the bungs but you have that hose you now know what it is all about, -------please let me know if that solves your problem, I know I am right but it is nice to be told

manual gear boxes do not have a dipstick , there is a bung plug on the side of the box , about 1/2 way up. to check oil level,umdo that bung plug the oil level is the bottom of that hole.when at correct level oil will just drip over the lip.
