Can you clarify a little better . does not crank ??? As when you turn the key to the start position nothing happens ? The starter does not engage an spin the engine ? Control module has nothing to do with that . Park neutral safety switch maybe, ignition switch possibly, main B+ cable from battery to the starter solenoid. If you would look at a wiring diagram to see what all is involved in the starting system on your vehicle an testing the starter electrical circuit's . Doing voltage drop testing on the starter main B+ circuit .. Starter Voltage Drop Don't keep changing out the starter , that is not it. Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. Year , make , model and engine size. Under system click engine ,then under subsystem click on starting . Click the search button then the blue link. Now look at the wiring diagram ,DO YOU SEE A CONTROL MODULE any where on that diagram ??????

I recently had a similar problem. I drive a 94 ram 1500 with the 3.9 6 cylinder. When I replaced the coil it started right up but then cut out and wouldn't start. So I wiggled the wire that plugs into the coil and tried to start it and it fired up again and the next day it wouldn't start. My problem was were the wires connected to the plug came loss. I went to the junk yard found any ram truck from 94 to 01 with either gas engine 3.9-5.2-5.9 and cut the plug off with decent amount of wire and installed it on mine and problem was solved. I also had a catalytic converter problem about 3 months after that was similar but it would start right up and run in neutral fine but when it gear it would bog down and eventually stall. Good luck.
I recently tried the DIY service and repair
manuals from a website and it actually helped me repair transmission problem in my jcb 3cx site-master. It would'nt move forward or reverse, engine was good both solenoids for forward and reverse worked, but still couldn't diagnose the problem.
I don't have much technical knowledge but I just followed it step-wise, and now it works perfect! covers wiring, codes, diagrams, torque specs, PCV, everything
got it from www.reliable-store.com
I had what seems like the same problem. After taking it to a couple of shops and paying hundreds of dollars for it not being fixed, I found that a sensor was losing contact intermittently due to a short in the wiring harness connecter. I forget what the sensor is, but it is located on the passenger side back by the fire wall, near the exhaust manifold. Try having the engine running and wiggle that wiring harness to see if the engine cuts off. Hope this helps, JD
