Hi I have a 1992 fzr600. Bought as a none runner. Was told starter gone, when I got it home I found out that the starter clutch gear had teeth missing and one coil lead was damaged. Replaced both items with new parts(second hand). I also cleaned the carbs before starting. Got bike started but was only running on no 1 and 2 clylinders. The carbs for clyinders 3 and 4 seemed to be running off. Also alot of smoke coming from exhaust but i think this was due to too much fuel. I let it run for about 10min. Turned off the choke and the smoke started to go away. I gave the bike a rev and she just cut out. It blew the main fuse and the ignition fuse. I replaced the fuses but now it won't spark at all. When I turn the bike over for a few seconds and them turn off the key it sends a spark to the pug and back fires. Also only one off the coils 12v supply is cut off when I use the run/off switch. Possibly a short or bad earth?

how old is the gas it may have a lot of water or junk in it.drain the bowl on the carb and drain the fuel out of the tank, check the petcock screen inside the gas tank. also i would not spray start fluid into the plug hole, it could blow a hole in the top of your piston, spray a little right into your air cleaner or carb.good luck

SOURCE: just had my carbs refurbished bike starts on choke

It sounds like it is running too lean for some reason. First, let's assume that the normal tune up items are correct (valve tappet clearances, spark plugs are good, air filter, etc.). Also included in this assumption is that the engine has good compression (at least 140 psi on all cylinders) and that there are no air leaks between the carbs and the engine.
The aftermarket exhaust will generally require larger jetting in the carburetors - especially when combined with anything but the stock air cleaner box assembly. So, right off the bat, plan on going up to the next size larger pilot and main jets for the exhaust alone - PLUS another two to three sizes bigger if you aren't using the stock air cleaner box.
Finally, make sure the carbs that you have refitted to your bike are not clogged up from sitting with gasoline in them. It only takes a few months for the fuel to evaporate and leave behind a varnish that will require the carbs to be disassembled and cleaned.

SOURCE: starts and runs with choke on for about 1minute or

Sea foam isn't always the answer there is far better things to use, berryman B12 chemtool is the best i have found for thing that haven't been sitting for a awhile but just need a good clean or water problems.
On to the problem at hand, has your bike sat for any amount of time? if so you need to clean your carbs. the gas will varnish and block the jet. will the bike run without the choke? Check your coilby seeing if you have spark test each hole if you have good spark them you know that coils and pickup are working.
Let me know what you find, Good luck

SOURCE: PLEASE HELP PLEASE HELP....1992 YAMAHA FZR 600,

Check the spark timing.

Check fuel delivery. If it consistently runs on starter fluid then dies when that is exhausted, suspect a vacuum leak in the carburetor or intake manifold. This will keep the engine from sucking in fuel.

Car shifts but gears do not engage

It sounds like you have a clutch problem, this is what happens when your clutch is no more, You may have noticed it getting sluggish for some time or lots of motor and not much acceleration. If this sounds familar, get your clutch checked. When it gives up, you are not going anywhere.

Sounds like you have a bad starter drive gear assembly (the gear on the starter that engages the flywheel gear). The drive gear has a one way clutch to prevent spinning the starter with the flywheel on engine start. When the clutch goes bad it does not spin the starter drive gear. If that's the case you can replace the starter drive rather than the whole starter, and you should also check the flywheel gear teeth to make sure none are broken or worn excessively.

Starter going, but not engaging the flywheel

Bendix on starter motor has gone or the flywheel has dropped or worn away some teeth

Take the starter motor out and look the teeth on the flywheel if you put the engine in a high gear you can push it forward or back to spin the flywheel around to inspect the teeth

If they are all looking square and right then the starter motor bendix needs to be replaced

Not a big job

Or get a re-conditioned starter motor
