Clutch wont disengage properly

Is the clutch pushrod moving freely and not stuck in with grime? It is behind the slave.

Could have adjusted pressure plate too tight, or uneven. Wet clutches have to be soaked in oil 4 a couple of hours before installing. Try 2 push bike with lever fully in while in 4gear (motor off) this may unstick plates.

This is something that will have to be looked into.. Sounds like the clutch may not be working.. it won't engage/disengage..(the clutch plates are stuck together - a common thing when older bikes sit for a while!!).. this will require the right side cover to be removed, the clutch cover plate removed, the clutch plates(fiber and metal) to be removed, then cleaned, oiled and everything re-installed in reverse order..with a new side cover gasket..

You MIGHT be able to put the bike in gear.. then try to push it (engine not running) with the clutch lever pulled in and get the clutch plates to break loose (seen this work a couple times)..
You SHOULD be able to push the bike(engine not running) in gear with the clutch lever pulled in!!!

The Clutch on some bikes will disengage the starter motor. Yamaha will not allow you to engage gear when the side stand is down. Hope this gives you some idea

There are line up marks on pressure plate and the clutch basket these need to be inline.If these marks are not lined up the adjustment will be way off and clutch will not engage or disengage properly.the only other problem it could be is possibly is when old clutch was removed the was a plate left behind and thats why the clutch wont adjust properly.Hate to say but the only way to be sure is to open it back up and see how many friction and thrust plates are in there.Find out from your local dealer the exact # of friction and thrust plates the bike should have.Last it could be the wrong clutch kit completly which may not have the right thickness plates.Good luck.Hope this info helps you.

Have you checked to see if the clutch lever is working properly? If the clutch stays engaged, the bike won't move. You can lubricate the clutch cable by removing it and taping a cardboard cone to the housing and pour a lightweight (30w) motor oil into the cone. Next, move the cable back and forth for a minute or so so that the oil will flow down inside the cable.

If the clutch cable is working correctly then then clutch plates are not disengaging when put into gear. Try different gears to see if it does the same thing. Also, have you changed the oil in the bike? Your bike uses a wet clutch system which means that the oil you put in the crankcase is also used for your clutch plates. Using a synthetic oil will cause problems with your bike (according to Honda).

could be a few different things,But always start with the small( inexpensive )first and work your way up...#1 check your clutch cable adjustment to be sure its engaging and disengaging properly(clutch cables stretch over time and need replaced or adjusted)...but if you have never done any clutch work to the bike(and you ride it like i do mine) #2. it probably needs new clutch plates and #3 maybe clutch basket from your description of the problem. the clutch plate fibers wear down over time(they are like brake pads and wear out).and the plates wear groves in the clutch basket and interfear with the plate movement...hopefully its just your cable..hope this helps..

Assuming the clutch handle on the handlebar is adjusted properly, only three things will cause the problem.

• Very dirty oil in the gearbox. The grit is causing the clutch to drag. Change oil, ride for an hour in the city then change oil again to flush out the grit.
• Worn clutch lever (at gearbox). Lever is not moving the pusher far enough to fully disengage the clutch. A new lever would be needed.
  

• Synthetic lubricant ( or oils with "special" additives), was put in gearbox. 10w40 motor oil should be used in the gearbox. Synthetics can swell the cork on the friction plates causing the clutch to drag. New friction plates will fix the problem.

The current amount of clutch drag is not enough to harness the power of an engine rev. That is why the clutch seems okay at higher revs. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

If you put synthetic oil or an oil with "Special" additives in the gearbox the cork on the fiber friction plates may be swollen. The swelling can cause the clutch to stay engaged, Only use standard 10w40 motor oil in the gearbox. You will need new fiber friction plates if that is what has happened. Normally the only other three things that would cause the problem are a worn shift arm, a bent push rod and a badly worn cable.

Bleed your slave cylinder on the sprocket cover and refill the hydraulic fluid. If you have any leaks you will get air in the system and it will not fully disengage the clutch. As for the 750, they have cable clutches and you just need to adjust the slack of the cable.
