Kawasaki zx7 won't start

Hi, my 97 Kawasaki zx-7 won't start. I had a problem with the lights not coming on when I put the key in the ignition. After removing the gas tank, I noticed that the plug from the ignition wires was sitting on the engine block and part of it had melted. We managed to get the lights to come on, but now the bike won't start. The battery is fine and I've replaced the starter relay. It seems like it wants to start, but there's no spark. Any ideas on what it could be?? I was thinking that maybe the ignition switch or ignition itself are in need of being replaced.

Hi. I had the same issues as what your saying. What we found was that the leads are a screw in into the spark plug cap. Unscrew the leads to the cap, trim the ends off by a mm or 2 and re-screw back into cap that goes onto spark plug. There renown for pulling out and giving weak or no spark.

SOURCE: My zx-12 turns off after running for a while?

Sounds like your charging system is failing. You should have 12 volts on a battery when not running, and around 13.5 or so while running. Check it with a meter if you can.

SOURCE: my 97 kawasaki zx7 is dumping fuel into the airbox

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, your described problem indicates that the fuel inlet valve(s) are not closing properly either because of float height or because of a foreign matter lodged between the valve and the port.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
