Recent shut off valves don't have an off position anymore it's been replaced with PRi which is prime..The petcock lever has a long side and a short side.w/long side pointed down that is ON..long side up that is RESERVE..halfway between is PRIME which is used when cycle has sat for a long time or has run out of gas...off is not used anymore cause the petcock is vacuum actuated and only lets gas flow when engine is running...except for PRIME, these should all be printed/stamped on your petcock...Good luck to you friend....Tim

SOURCE: fuel filter replacement

hello
it may be possible that as long as you just ran out of fuel. that the system needs to reprime with fuel. when the carbs were ran dry. the fuel lines ran empty as well. there is a fuel pump that only works when the motor is cranking over. so the more you crank over the more fuel will start to refill the fuel lines and float bowls to help start again.

SOURCE: what position is the reserve on the fuel valve

The flag or handle will be pointing a way from res.
If you get down in front of it you will see a groove or a raised area that points to on, res or off.

The 2005 does not have the "fuel gauge" LCD display like the Volusias- it has only an amber fuel light that will come on when you ahve about 1.5 gallons left.

I dont have a fuel shut off valve for my suzuki gs550l where is the best place to get one

are you sure you don,t have a shut off , should be on the left or right side under fuel tank , if you do need one go to any motorcycle shop ,be sure to get one with a off , on , reserve , the reserve is for when you run out of gas in the on position flip it to reserve and hope theres enough gas to get you to gas station

I ran out of gas with my 1998 vt750. It is supposed to have a .9 gallon reserve. I usually run with the valve turned to 'on'. When I turned the valve to 'reserve' it was dry. Is something wrong or am I...

Either the intake tube on your fuel petcock has fallen off, Your petcock has worn out and is allowing fuel from the reserve position to leak into the on position hole , or you had the lever in the wrong position. If you had the petcock turned to the correct positions, the you may want to drain the tank and remove the pet **** for inspection. If the fuel inlet tube for the ON position has fallen off, you in effect, have no reserve. If the petcock is worn out you will need to replace it so it will work the way it is supposed to.

Just got a trophy 3. dont know what position is which on the fuel tap? no markings.

Usually the fuel valve is this
Straight Down = ON
Straight Up = RESERVE
Horizontal/Across = OFF
There may be some difference with the manufacturers, or with custom fuel valves (chrome), also, fuel injected bikes usually do not have reserve or reserve position on fuel valve. If you have fuel injected bike, they do not like to be run out of gas, keep the gas level up.

What is the position of the fuel tank on/off/reserve valve when the valve is in the on position? I just bought the honda and have no manual. I moved the valve and thought I moved it back to where it was...

the on position is controlled by intake vacuum and shuts down the flow when not running, reserve bypasses this and can be used for priming the engine, off means off, i hope this helps

How to refill the reserve gas tank 1981 Honda CX500 motorcycle

there is only one tank to fill on your bike, your getting confused by the reserve. The reserve is just on the fuel tap itself. It has three positions, on , off and reserve. In the on position your fuel tap will be able to drink about 90% of your fuel tank and then it wont be able to drain anymore, then you must turn your fuel tap to the reserve position and it will be able to drink rest of your tank approx 10% that is left. So next time you fill up at a petrol station make sure your fuel tap is set to on, then when your bike starts to splutter out of fuel you can turn your fuel tap to reserve and get yourself to the petrol station to fill up, making sure you then turn your tap to on again. If you keep running out on the reserve it can cause debris in your tank to clog your carb up.
hope this helps

I cant find the fuel shut off switch on my 2008 gsxr 600 I dont have the owners manual either

THe fuel shut off valve is also called the "petcock" it should be located on the side of the gas tank on the very bottom. I think it is on the right hand side. Look for the fuel line that goes to the fuel system and you should be able to trace it to the shut off valve. It should have 3 positions, ON / OFF / RESERVE
