Yamaha V-Star '07 1100 oil leak at rear cylinder exhaust pipe seam

I have an '07 V-Star 1100 with 9700 mi.that has developed an oil leak that is coming from the rear cylinder exhaust pipe at the pipe seam. The engine starts and then begins to smoke from the exhaust. It then begins to miss and pop as if the oil is in the cylinder. The oil leak at the seam is pretty severe. With the engine miss the bike is not rideable. Valve stem seal or broken cylinder ring?

First off did you buy it new? Second has it gone through its break in tune up yet?Did you do the re jeting? My guess is it was re jeted wrong & neeeds to be re jeted again or could also need more air(upgraded air kit) or a tfi or power comand fuel mod.My bike also poped untill I did the air & fuel upgrades & them upgrades will also give you a much needed house power needed for this rig.

SOURCE: white smoke blowing out the exhaust and oil consumtion on r.cyl.

Its most likely your rings. They get worn and start letting oil into the combustion chamber. They aren't extremely hard to replace.

2006 yamaha v-star 1100 will not stay running{start and die within seconds}rear cylinder not getting gas from carb but carb is getting gasrear cylinder just not pulling gas from carb any suggestions

It sounds like the carb jetting is plugged up so that carbs should be removed and cleaned! When you first start the bike keep it idling by having someone hold it on and at the same time light touch the front and rear exhaust pipes. The carb that is working will have a hot pipe and the one not working will be cooler or cold.

Do you have to drop the exhaust to change the oil filter on a 2000 yamaha 1100 v-star

Yes, unless you want to spend $250 on a Baron oil filter relocation kit. http://www.motoshop.net/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BA264000&Category_Code=BARONS&Store_Code=AIM Or $275 on a Jardine oil filter relocation kit. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=108&manufacturer_ID=7&product_ID=6715&sblid_name=Jardine_Chrome_Oil_Filter_Relocation_Kit___ V_Star_______ If you choose to stay with the stock set up, consider keeping new exhaust gaskets handy in case you start to experience popping and backfiring caused by leaking exhaust gaskets on the head pipes.

1996 royal star, left rear valve seems to be sticking or something, getting rough idle with lots of backfire popping from that pipe, and motor is missing badly during takeoff and downshift idling. anybody...

The The Air Injection System AIS for that cylinder could be leaking (chrome pipe running up to a fitting right by the exhaust pipe) or more likely the rubber pipe that goes from the engine intake to carburetor is either loose at the engine or carburetor, or the rubber pipe is cracked, split or broken. This would cause air to be sucked into the crack, split or loose fitting during during acceleration or downshifting.
