Hello:

The Ign Module is Usully the Coil and the Stator/Charging Coils are Located Under the Flywheel.
>>The Following is the Instruction File I Made for Removing the Flywheel from Most Mower Engines for Replacing the Flywheel Key, the Stator/Charging Coil/Magneto and the Point Set on Older Engines without Electronic Ign Coils.
>>It is the Basics and if you have a Question, Please Ask. Any Input to Make this File Better is Appreciated.
>>***Disconnect the Coil Wire from the Spark Plug. Remove the Blower Housing (metal engine cover).
>>Remove the Coil.
>>Remove the Flywheel Nut or Starter Cup (Depends on the Model).
>>Now Attach a Steering Wheel Puller to the Flywheel Using the Threaded Holes in the Flywheel.
>>Tighten the Puller.
>>Now Hit the Puller with a Hammer. Repeat this Procedure Until the Flywheel Pops Up or can be Lifted Off the Crankshaft.
>>On Some Models you Can Not Use a Puller and and the Jaws of a Standard Puller will Not Fit. On these Type Engines you can Use a Pry Bar and a Pipe Cap that is Slightly Larger than the Crankshaft. Place the Pipe Cap Over the Crankshaft to Protect it. Place the Pry Bar Under the Thick Section of the Flywheel and Pull Up Against the Flywheel.
>>**BE CAREFUL DO NOT PUT A HOLE IN THE BLOCK UNDER THE FLYWHEEL** >>Now Hit the Pipe Cap that is on the Crankshaft (covered with the Pipe Cap). Repeat the Procedure Until the Flywheel can be Lifted Off the Crankshaft.
>>*** Be Sure you have the Flywheel Torqued to the Proper Torque (I require the Model and Spec/Type Numbers Off the Engine to Provide the Proper Torque) and Set the Coil Gap to .020in..***
Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance.
Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Be Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck

Respectfully

John

Check the resistance (ohms) of your new switch and wiring. Sounds a though you are not getting good voltage, also check battery voltage.

Kohler ch730s runs but battery dies while engine is running.voltage regulator?

you may be correct...to verify that the stator is working, you can disconnect the two either white, gray,or yellow leads that go into the regulator/rectifier.these come off the stator. You will need to use a multimeter set to "ac" to check this. Set the meter to read at least 100v ac. them ,while engine is running, check the voltage on these leads...should be around 30VAC..If this voltage is present then you can rule out the stator.

Not charging battery no power on stator wires?

With engine off, check continuity through the stator winding. you should have continuity both ways if testing before the diode. If testing after the diode, and you still have continuity both ways, then your diode is blown and needs to be replaced. If you don't have continuity through the stator windings, then stator is defective.

Some models have a fuse in the charging circuit, look for that as well and test with a meter, don't assume visually.

I have a craftsman riding mower with model number 917.257552 and a kohler engine of model number CV14S and type number 1452. I have used it for 16 years and never had any trouble. Recently I had some...

Russ, it sounds like the needle is bad in the carburetor. if it dont seal right it will allow fuel to seep into the combustion chamber creating a hydro lock as some call it. the engine will seem tight and wont start also blow fuel out the exhaust. to fix this you will have to take the carb off and clean it real good and put a new needle in it it will run like new. good luck

Possible igition problems

mcdevito75 here, Look on the firewall for a white 4 prong reistor, change thisresistor, see if your car starts, if so great, if not, remove the plugs from the resistor and jump them with 2 wires not across the plugs, at the plugs there are 2 connectors with 2 plugs that plug into this resistor, use a jumper wire, any wire between the connections on each plug, seee if the car starts, if so you need a new resistor, if not you"ll have to change the ignition module.
