My 2006 toyota rav4 was hit from behind. after the accident, the srs light on the dash board came on and no airbag was inflated. also, the passenger seat belt flashes non-stop even when it is fastened

The first time I encountered this type of problem, I discovered one of cables under the passenger seat was removed from the socket. I fixed it back and everything became normal immediately.

SOURCE: +Toyota Rav4 sport (2010) The vehicle

Its not easy, task. You will have to get the air bag connector and wires by-passed then check. If it get successfully bypassed, then you can repair other parts without replacing air bag.But if airbag connectors are not getting bypassed, then replacing is necessary. If all the light stays on, then there can be short in connections from dash or in the fuse box.The dash is getting power directly from battery, as any of the dash wire is getting in contact with battery terminal or metal parts. The fuses in fuse box and dash wiring connector needs to be checked.Replacing seat belt is not a hard job.You just require basic tools to remove the seal belt out from its hook and unbolt it and reconnect new replacement seal belt to its exact location.----- But first you will have to get the air bag connector by passed and see.If its still causing the problem, then this problem can also be related to fault in ECU/ECM.In that case the vehicles computer needs to be scanned and if checked out faulty. Then it needs to be replaced and re-programmed by dealer.---------- After replacing computer, reprogramming is necessary, other wise the new ECU/ECM will not detect electrical parts in the vehicle and cause major problems like no start. ------------------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Srs light on

What is responsible for this anomaly is the sensor that detected the hit. Maybe the electronics can be "reset" to resolve the issue - check with the dealer - maybe you can do it yourself.

2006 toyota tacoma srs light stays on where is relay

Hi Keith,

"SRS" stands for "Supplemental Restraint System". This includes your airbags and your seatbelt pre-tensioners. The only way to find out why the light is on is to scan your airbag module and retrieve the fault codes that will be stored to let you know which part of the system is failing.

There are a few Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for the SRS in your vehicle, however none of them address any concerns with sysem failure or the light illuminating. They have to do with proper service proceedures to prevent accidental airbag deployment, disposal of deployed airbag parts, notification to the service technicians that they MUST replace an entire harness to fix wiring problems in the SRS and that wiring repairs are NOT to be made, etc..

Please also note that if the SRS light is on, the safety systems in your vehicle WILL NOT WORK in the event of an accident. It is highly recommended that you get this properly diagnosed and repaired by a trained service technician as soon as possible. Unless you have had specific training for the supplemental restraint system in your vehicle, I DO NOT recommend trying this at home.

It all depends on the speed you hit tree. BMW can scan computer and track back any faults. Hopefully SRS/check engine light wasn't lit when you were involved in accident.

My 2006 Toyota has a dash light that just went on after a fill up. The light is the airbag ligth-it flashes and the manual says to take it directly to the dealer. Any chance this is a fuse?

I just reset my maintenance light and started the car to find a flashing airbag light. Reading the manual, the SRS checks a lot of things so I pulled each seat belt out to full and retracted about 3 times each, then moved front seats full forward and looked from the rear for connectors -- saw them all connected, but jut pressed them together to make sure, moved seats back. Finally, closed all doors, buckled belt, and crossed fingers starting car. Light lit for 6 seconds solid and went off. Hoping it stays that way. Had squib replaced under warranty in year 1. Now fearful of any repair since so $$$$ and you gotta have working airbags and not unforseen inflation. Hopefully light stays off ... hope it works for you.

I was hit from behind by another car; and the air bags did not infralte. the problem is that the air ba light came on and the passenger set belt airbag indicator is always off. Toyota Camry 2004 Model

The airbags are meant to inflate only on frontal impact as that is when the driver and passenger tend to bend forward and can get injured. When hit from the back the driver and other tend to sink into the seats, so there is no chance of hitting the steering or dashboard. Why the passenger's airbag light came on or whatever may be some electrical fault as a result of the impact. That should be rectified to ensure proper functioning of the seat belt and the airbags and not raise a false alarm.

SRS

SRS stand for Supplymentary Restraint System, The purpose of the SRS light on your instrument panel is to alert you of a potential problem with your supplemental restraint system. It should blink seven times when you turn the ignition switch to ON or START and go OFF. A possible fault in the system can lead to any of the following: (a) The light does not come on when you turn the ignition ON. (b) The light stays on after the engine starts. (c) The light comes on while you are driving. Apart from the conventional causes of these faults (faulty airbag system), majority of the light indicator problem has been attributed to ignorance while fixing or repairing mechanical and/or wiring systems within the vehicle. If the SRS indicator light alerts you to a problem, have the supplemental restraint system inspected as soon as possible. If you ignore this indication, the airbags might not inflate when you need them. Likely Causes:
  • Steering wheel modifications
  • Faulty driver/passenger seat sensors for your airbag system (located under the seats)
  • Faulty seat belt mechanism
  • Tampered system components or wiring (e.g battery jumpering)
* Sometimes, a little adjustment of your seat belts and/or seat positions might fix the indicator problem over time (if the sensors are not faulty).
Precautions:
  • Do not modify your steering wheel or any other part of the supplemental restraint system. Modifications could make the system ineffective.
  • Do not tamper with the system's components or wiring. This could cause the airbags to inflate inadvertently, possibly injuring someone very seriously.
  • Tell anyone who works on your vehicle that you have a supplemental restraint system. Failure to follow the procedures and precautions in the official service manual could result in personal injury or damage to the system.
  • If all sensors are ok, the system can be reset using appropriate tools; refer to specially trained technicians.
