I think your mate is right try pushing the bike to get it going then once fired up & cleared out should be fine. Put choke on full kick fully 2x then take choke off completely, kick again.

This may help you determine the problem. 1. is sprkplug oil fouled? wet? dry? superhot and white electrode? A sparkplug will always tell you whats going on. if its too wet then its not burning all the fuel and oil and flooding out. if its extremely hot and white, then its running lean , and needs more fuel. also make sure your running 50:1 fuel oil mix. a hot two stroke is hard to start. if plug is dry, then its not getting enough fuel.
2. make sure your fuel oil mixture is 50:1. to much oil is okay but it may smoke alot way to much oil will oil foul the plug and plug will have oil on it. to little oil will make the bike run hot and start damaging the bottom end crank bearings as well as your rings , then piston and cylinder walls. the plug will be whitish and hot.
3. as for the timing , the rotor is resting on a keyway on the crankshaft and will only move out of time if the keyway is sheared.
4. make sure you have good spark when bike wont start. a coil that is going bad will work cold but may not when it gets warmed up
to sum it up check to make sure you have correct fuel mixture check you sparkplug to see how its burning make sure you have good spark
if you have good spark, good fuel, good compression, then it should start within 2 kicks everytime. i have a blaster 2 stoke 4 wheeler, starts everytimesince i rebuilt it. i hope this helps you out and you can enjoy the rest of the summer with your dirtbike. best regards Big Al
did the guy give you the starting method. if not you have flooded the plug and it will only start if you replace the plug or dry it out. method. dont touch the throttle. pull decom lever and kick over 10 times. release lever get topwith kick start. pull decom lever slightly to allow kick start to drop 1 notch. release lever and let kick start back up and kick hard. repeat should start second go.
I have this bike. This is what i would try. Charge battery, replace old fuel with fresh fuel, manual says 91 Octane. You can drain old fuel out from fuel filter line, also good to replace fuel filter and spark plug. Spark plug is accessed from small panel behind where your ankles would be while riding. Fuel filter is above kick starter. Try and kick start, note its not the power of the kick that matters, its the position of the kick mechinisim - doesn't always have to be from the very top, you have to feel it be at a point just befofre it engages then kick. and DON't give it throttle when you're starting. If 10 kicks fail. Wait for the fuel to dry out for a few minutes, easy to flood with repeat failed starts...
In order to better help you with the bike, more info is needed... does it have good compression? does it have a good spark plug? is it getting good spark? is the air fliter clean? is the carb clean? is fuel getting into the carb? is fuel getting into the cylinder? after kicking several times can you smell gas as if it were flooding? did you kick it over a few times and pull the plug out (QUICKLY) to see if its wet with fuel? does it look like there is any condensation on the plug after kicking it over several times? go thru all this info, and please let me know what you find and if this helps you.
the same problem happened my py90 try taking out the sparkplug blowing in the hole to clean it out and if that doesnt work blow into the petrol cap really fast wen ur finished blowing put ur finger over the cap dont let any air out then kick start it about 6 times it should work on 2 kick starts but keep ur finger over the petrol cap
For a cold start, turn fuel on at fuel tap. Pull out the choke knob. slowly kick the kickstarter until you feel it become harder(more resistance). push past this resistance then release the kickstarter. What you have done is put the piston in the position just after top dead centre of the compression stroke. Now give it a big kick whilst opening the throttle slightly. There is a real techneque to it so don't think your the only one who has problems! Otherwise, ask your local Yammy dealer for a look at the owners manual. It has a description on how to both hot & cold start your bike. They may let you photocopy it. Good luck.
If it just isn't happening try removing the sparkplug, put it back in the plug cap, rest the plugs metal body on the cylinder head (don't hold it there or you could get a nasty shock) Now kick the kickstarter while watching the sparkplug gap. Did it spark? If it didn't theres a problem. No spark means it wont run! Then you'll need to find out why theres no spark. Hope this helps to get you started Otherwise let us know and i'll se what else I can suggest.
YOUR BIKE HAS A POWER VALVE (DIAPHRAM FUEL PUMP) THAT GIVES A SHOT OF GAS EACH TIME THE THROTTLE IS TWISTED. WHEN THE BIKE IS HOT, IT FLOODS EASILY. DON'T HIT THE THROTTLE WHEN STARTING THE BIKE WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT.
There is a proper way to start the engine. Four controls are on your bike to assist in starting.
The choke, used when the engine is cold. Pull the red knob for choke.
The " Hot Start " Lever, used when the engine is hot. Pull the lever to lean the fuel mix when the engine has been running.
The de-compression lever, always used.
The throttle, used to prime the cylinder.
Don't kick, instead, push the kick lever downward. You will feel the back pressure as the piston is going upward on the compression stroke to the point the pressure is great enough that the kick lever "locks up". You are very close to TDC. NOW, pull in the de-compression lever. Push the kick lever a little bit more to get the piston past TDC. Now release the de-compression lever. Give the throttle a 1/4 turn then let it snap closed. A diaphragm in the carb gives a shot of gas when this is done. DO NOT do this multiple times because you will flood the engine. Leave the throttle closed when kicking. A flooded engine will often backfire. Now give a strong kick through the full sweep of the kick start lever. Quickly get your foot off the kick lever at the end of the kick to avoid any chance of "kickback" from the kick lever. This happens in the case of a misfire, aka > backfire. It can be very painful, and can even break a leg. I am serious about that. Repeat the process (but without the throttle priming), until the bike starts. A good battery, a clean spark plug, a clean carb and clean air filter will also aid in starting.
Check your spark plug. If it's black (rich mixture), replace it. (There may be carb/ignition/air intake issues causing the rich mixture.) But it's probably your starting technique. I suggest getting an owner's manual or contacting a dealer who can instruct you in the proper starting procedure.
needle and seat are worn out in carb, to much fuel is flooding cylinder. remove carb, clean, get new needle and seat, set float. problem goes away. pull your plug after kicking. its probably wet.
When you push, or pull start you evacuate excessive fuel, when engine is warm, easier to start extra fuel burns easier.
50 to 1 you are risking a seized piston and lots of wear on the crank bearings. 32 / 1 is the standard. Use 2 stroke engine oil not motor oil. Are you getting spark?
