I have a ZXR 750, 2003 model, love the bike plenty. but the governor at 8000 rpm is a huge disapointmrnt. what to do?

adjust the rpm on the governor lever screw

this could be a number of things from the type of pipes you have to the electronics the best way forward is take it to your dealer and he will be able to help with his dyno , cheers pete

thats good and also chec plug wires for age... However u may need to rebalance the carbs and cylinders--do u hav a clymer manual!!

go to www.google.com and enter the bike followed by service manual and there should be plenty of free pdf sites for you to find and download your manual.

u sound smart n thanks for goin oldschool-1st buy a manual-thats how the pros work--in bike yrs its in its 50's-parts wear out-try ajustin cable n then do clutch itself-that does not help-rebuild is probable

also check the side stand switch disconnect it

This is hard to tell without riding it to feel the condition. Here are a few things that come to my mind.

1 Spark plugs or ignition system not able to handle the higher demands of the higher RPMs

2 battery or charging system not creating enough power to meet the higher demands of the bike (ignition and fuel systems)

3 Fuel flow to the carbs is low or the main jet is clogged.

4 valve adjustment and or valve timing

check your tank breather hose for any blocks or kinks - also have a look at the fuel filter and airbox.

Remove battery and get it charged the tested..More likely its failed. when engine is running check battery voltage it should be 12.8 to 14.2 volts with good battery
