Confused over what weight of oil to use

I have a 2003 yamaha 650 v-star , what oil weight should i use here in the state of mo.

OK the consensus on air cooled is 20w50, if you don't get stuck in traffic when it's above 80 degrees outside 10w40 gives you better protection when it's cold.

What type of oil for forks & how much per side for a 2003 yamaha 650 v star?
Some Yamahas only give measurements from the top of the tube down to the oil. There are instructions in the service manual.
