That is a sign of ignition problems. Timing off? Could be any number of things. What have you checked so far?

If you are sitting still and not riding the bike (just revving it out till it wont rev any more)then it is notbackfiring as such you have reached the engines rev limiter and it is cutting power to the coils in sequence to protect itself from destruction,if it is backfiring at high rpm while riding then is quite likely the engine is running a touch on the lean side, and this needs to be rectified as an engine run for to long in a lean state will cause premature failure of major engine components(pistons normally melt and weld themselves to the barrells)not ideal at all, hope this helps

2002 Yamaha V-Star 1100 won’t start!

Sounds like the Ignition timing is out if it is firing through the carburetor. It means the engine is firing too soon before TDC (top dead centre) and is throwing the piston backwards instead of onwards. Did you check the compression and that the valves were sealing properly after the rebuild? You can get combustion via the inlet valve, which exits via the carburetor.

2000 Yamaha V star Classic 1100; Once it warms up, tends to backfire a bit and overrevs in low gear (very high idle). What should be the cause of the high idle.

The idle is set too high. Check on the left side of the engine, about mid point of the jugs "V", you should see a knob near the middle. Turn it R/L until the idle lowers. (slowly!) (only AFTER it has warmed up.

Rpms speed up faster then bike does. Sounds like clutch slip.

You can adjust it by slackening the cable...unless it has hydraulic operation....Otherwise get it replaced before you do more damage..ie clutch dust and debris in the oil, so dont forget the oil and filter change too.

2002 v star 1100 classic will not start

You might have a bad voltage regulator that killed the battery, how long did it run? Was it on a high idle(choked)?
