Tips on changing plugs for the first time

Mark the plug wires or best way is to undo them one at a time so you don,t mix them up get a ratchet and plug socket unscrew them ,check the gap on the new plug is 42 thou.a bit of anti-seize on the thred screw back in,then do the same to all plugs,a tip is to use N.G.K plugs.

If you got a CAR and not a truck, there are a few things you need to pay attention to when replacing spark plugs.

You need to make sure your spark plugs are the issue for whatever the problem is.
Take a 16mm SPARKPLUGS spanner (it's a special sort of tool that you buy in the shop, unless you have it, don't bother to try with anything else, or your could do some damage), unplug one of the cables attached to one of the sparkplugs (make sure you don't unplug more that one, so you won't mess the order), take your magic tool (sparkplug socket spanner or whatever it is called) fit it on top of the sparkplug, (listen for the clicking) and then twist it left until the sparkplug is out.

Have a look to your sparkplug, and see if there is any carbon on it (if it's black, it has to be replaced/sandpapered)

repeat the operation to the other (alledgedly 3) sparkplugs, naking sure you DO NOT MESS UP the order of the cables that connect to the sparkplugs.

If finally you've decided it is time to replace the sparkplugs, under NO circumstances, replace less than ALL of them. (unless you replace them on the car of someone you don't like)

You have a 4 cylinder and there are seals in the cover around the spark plug holes. You can replace these with a rocker arm cover gasket set. Costs about $25.00. The oil does not hurt the sparkplug, but over time it will affect the plug wires/ boots and cause a misfire. these are not hard to replace. Your call.

At least a CO90. If the car shakes only on idle that means that the fuel mixture isn't lighted every time by the sparkplug - check the injectors and sparkplugs for dirt.

To change the plugs, do one at a time so not to mix up the sparkplug wires, remove plug wire from a plug, use sparkplug socket to remove the sparkplug make sure to gap new plugs, ask parts store for the gap setting they will give it to you when plugs are bought, the plug gapper is about $2.00. and that about it, the rear plugs are a little harder to get to but the same way to remove, some buicks came with metal heat sheild over the sparkplug boot in the rear cylinders make sure to reuse, you will know if you have them they will slide right off old boot.

You have the 3.2L 6cyl ? The wire connector at each coil that is positioned above the sparkplug is a bit tricky to remove. Start with an easy to get at one-like one on engine front passenger side. There is a clip you have to push in to release the connector-it will slide out. Then remove two screws holding coil to valve cover and pull it up-it will have a long boot on it. Use a sparkplug socket and long extension to remove sparkplug. Tip: driver's side sparkplug located nearest to firewall of car is a bit tricky to get out because of steering/master brake cyl-use two short extensions-when sparkplug is unscrewed from engine-lift it up a bit-remove one extension-then lift plug out.

recheck around where plugs were worked on may have knocked off or damaged a vacuum line or wire on one of the plugs not seated right ,damaged or needs replacement

This vehicle's sparkplugs are located on the intake, right beside the fuel injectors. This is a time consuming job, and it is recommended to replace all COPs (Coil on plugs) very costly!! **WARNING**>> Work on the plugs with the engine cold, these engines are know for very little sparkplug threading and causing the plugs to eject while in operation. Be very carfeful installing as they are installed at an angle.
