Excessive Oil leak on 1985 Chrysler Laser 2.2L (non-turbo). My 17 year old son purchased the car with little history. Noticed a small oil leak on driveway. Replaced the valve cover gasket and leak appeared to improve, but not stop. I could see fresh oil on the passenger side of the motor immediately under the timing belt cover, but could not establish exactly where it was coming from. Due to age of the car i assumed to be a minor leaking seal. While riding with him yesterday on the interstate, I noticed an approximate 20 psi drop in oil pressure. Once we were able to pull over, the car stalled. I observed excessive oil on the passenger side of the motor an surrounding components. Due to the belts, fan and natural air circulation I could not pinpoint the source location. I let the car sit for some time and checked the oil level. Approximately 2 quarts was lost in a very short period. When I was younger, I owned a similar model and remember the oil sending unit going out on me and leaking excessively, but it was closer to the middle, rear of the motor. I have read other posts that say a clogged PVC valve/line could cause excessive oil pressure which could cause leaks. Was hoping someone familiar with this motor could offer some common failures in that location, so I have a good starting point. Thanks. Billy

A plugged pcv system will cause excessive oil leaks. But it sounds like you have a massive leak. If the passenger side is leaking behind the timing cover there may be up to four seals that may leak.single cam motor will have one cam seal dual will have two cam seals. Crank seal and possible oil pump seal. Would recommend pressure washing motor, go to local parts store and get some engine dye. Then support car and let engine get warm. And try to pinpoint leak.

SOURCE: 2002 Chrysler Sebring LTD Convertible, Mileage 58,300. Oil leak

This car came with a 70,000 mile drive train warranty. Take it back to the dealer, or contact Chrysler and your local ABC, CBS, or NBC affiliate, and let them know that the dealer is trying to screw you on their service and on Chrysler's coverage.

Ge it on the national news and I will bet your dealer will have this car fixed within a couple of days.

Embarrass the stuffing out of them!

Noticed a bit of smoke coming from under the hood. Opened to look and it seems there's oil next to the valve on my turbo.

Does turbo need oil? Very much so. It has parts spinning at 30,000 rpms or so, and the bearings require oil to live. Clean cool engine thoroughly, and then run engine to find leak.

My 2001 Chrysler LHS started smoking from under the hood when I turned off car and poured out a brown fluid from underneath car...

Its probably old worn out antifreeze/coolant.. HOPEFULLY not oil...you need to contact a QUALIFIED professional...Hopefully new hoses, thermostat, (maybe water pump)and a good flushing will fix the problem..pray its not oil...you will need to have the car towed to the repair shop.. ask around..(friends, neighbors,(google search with GREAT reviews) and do not chose one at random...

Good luck..

05 pt cruiser turbo.oil is getting into intake manifold.smoke is coming out of exhaust.installed new turbo.still doing the same thing

It is getting into your exhaust manifold-the return line is either restricted or blocked, or the oil seal inside the turbo housing is either leaking or blown, usually due to excessive crankcase pressure.Try disconnecting the oil feed and return lines first, clean them out, and try it again-if it is still there, the turbo will have to come out and it will have to be gone over for blown seals.

I am having a problem with my oil pressure... my guage which is not a dummy light, keeps dropping to like 1 kg per sq. inch when normally at 120kps i'm doing 3000rpm and the oil guage reads at around 3.7...

Don't get too concerned yet. Take it to the shop and let them scew in a well know mechanic's gage to make sure that the sensor isn't giving you a bad signal. That would be the first place to check.

Oil leak passenger side 300 turbo sedan, some on front passenger side wheel. Never lost oil pressure, but dipstick showed very little oil in crankcase on immediate after-run check. Have not started...

Add about 2.5-quarts of new engine oil to the engine.
Remove the passenger-side wheel, and support the car on jack-stands.
Start the engine and look for oil leak.
Chances are leaks are coming from failed oil-pan gasket or the drain-plug.
The head-cover gasket could be failing as well..
