I have a zx6r f1 1995 ninja. I recently had the downpipes changed on the bike. Now the bike struggles to go past 40mph. I have taken it to a dyno specailist and he as checked the carbs etc and hey are fine, its got new plugs in it, the air filter as been cleaned and thats fine. but the bike still won't run right. Even the dyno guy is at a loss as to what could be wrong with it. As it ticks over great without any problems. can anyone help as its costing me a hell of a lot of money already. But still no joy.

SOURCE: Just taken carb off of a Yamaha sr125

Hi,

Offhand, I would suspect the clear tube to be overflow while the black (smaller and connected at the bottom of the bowl near a bleeder screw) would be drain hose for removing stale or contaminated fuel inside the carb's bowl. As long as their is no suction on any of the tubes with the engine running, you should be OK. Should there be suction felt at the free end, then it should be connected somewhere and most likely would be to the fuel valve/petcock or must be plugged.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: GSXR 750 Slingshot wont rev past 5000rpm, with or without choke

I have seen this before a few things to do too make sure. First take the air filter out and shine a light use your fingers to move the slides up and down I suspect the springs that go on the slide is not seated in center you can tell from the slide going halfway and hanging up. Next, the boots on the slides only go on 1 way there is a notch on the carbs for them. I would guess this would fix you up if not we can get deeper into it with air-fuel mix screw settings.good luck

Check exhaust flapper on downpipe assy. Make sure it opens and closes when revving bike. This can be de-activated to improve acceleration. Also check flapper on airbox intake opening. This is a small flap that should move up when driving hard. It wears and sticks down impeding airflow. Assumes stock airbox and downpipes fitted. Also assumes no clutch slip etc.

I have a Kawasaki Ninja, ZX6r, 1997 F3. The bike starts great and rev's great when standing. At high rev's its as sweet as a nut. The problem seems to be when riding the bike and the revs are below 4,000....

There are adjustments on carbs for low speed air intake (air mixture screw)find out factory settings and reset that mixture.Sounds to me like those adjustments are out of sink.If so the bike will run very bad from idle to about 1/4 throttle then run great from there up to full throttle.this definitly sounds like carb problem.

Zx6r erratic throttle

Just check on your air ducts. When the bike is staionery it will idle rev and even run well on the dyno, but on the open road the airducts must be in and instadled or mounted correctly
