1997 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 dies after putting into gear? Start to give it gas and release the clutch and it dies. Kinda sounds like it's gasping for air?

That problem will always exist with the kickstand down or the sensor switch on the kickstand out of adjustment or malfunctioning.

Could be your clutch plates are worn and not letting the clutch fully disengage.

Hi cbloom,
You will have to probabley adjust the clutch either from the end of the cable at the side cover or from the above at the handle lever.

Good Luck .

You have found the problem, that saucer spring acts just like the pressure plate on the clutch of a standard transmission on a car. I had to replace one, and it was about $35.00. Good luck

SOURCE: Clutch wont disengage

Wet clutches need the proper oil. Is there any possibility it has the wrong oil?

SOURCE: 1997 VULCAN CLASSIC WITH NEW CLUTCH SEEMS TO SLIP IN ANY GEAR

Any special oils or lubricants in the gearbox? Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. If in a hot area like Texas or New Mexico go with 20w50.

be7bdb4.gif If the clutch still slips then go to a different mechanic and have him adjust the clutch. The first guy doesn't know what he is talking about.

You need to remove the carbs and dismantle them completly and adjust them to spec. Also change the fuel filter.

Sounds like the transmission may be bound up inside.

Starts & runs & idles great until I put it in gear & release the clutch then it stalls

Sounds like the kickstand switch is shorting out. It only dies when put in gear. If you have had your switch removed, check out the wires, if the switch is still there and working, check out the switch, it might need a shot of wd40. Check it out.

Why does the motor stall out when i engage the clutch?

It will have a side stand switch, which will kill the engine if the stand is left down, it opperates in conjunction with the switch under the clutch lever, and the neutral light
These side stand switches are small micro switches and often fail , wear out, or just come loose
The switch under the clutch seems to be ok , as it is doing what it is supposed to do, when it thinks the side stand is down

My 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 is struggling in fifth gear, and intermittently tachs high at speeds over 55mph.

If the bike is reving high in top gear but you are not gaining speed or very little speed your clutch is slipping. This is a sign the clutch needs replaced.

Starting and once started won't run

The problem seem to involve a number of circuits, I would suspect the Key switch as it supplies power to all affected systems. The dieing on release of the clutch is usually the kickstand safety switch. If the kick stand is not up, and the bike in gear, then when the clutch switch detects release is kills the engine so you don't kill your self.
Check or replace these switches.

Hope this is of some help.
