2001 Yamaha V Star 1100A not charging battery

Battery not being charged . Doesn't take long to pull one completely down with extra lights. How much would it cost to get fixed.

If you take a look at the parts microfiche (make sure this is your bike please), the voltage regulator and rectifier is a little under $70. Labor for installing it would probably be in the $200-300 dollar range at a dealer.

Have you checked the voltage while the bike is running? It could be that the lights are simply drawing more power than the charging system can put out. Put a voltmeter on the bike and start it. Rev engine to 2-4000 rpm (or just ride the bike if you can see the meter while riding). Check with extra lights off and extra lights on. If your voltage is 14+ while riding or reving the engine without the extra lights on I think your charging system is probably OK. If it is below 13 (again, without the extra lights on) I say the charging system is bad.

1998 Yamaha V Star - new battery went completely dead while driving. when purchased bike has auxilary driving lights how can I test alternator?

Make sure the power for the auxiliary lights is not being taken directly from the battery. Never draw power for accessories directly from the battery. Always take power from a wire past the regulator/rectifier or the charging system will either boil the battery dry or damage your expensive sealed battery.Charge and load test the battery to see if it is OK. If there are three wires coming out of the alternator (like a Honda) you should check the three wires for continuity in an combination. You should have no continuity between any of these wires and ground , that is the indicator that says you need a new stator.

2009 Yamaha V Star 1100 will not start. No power @ all. Charged battery. Still nothing. HELP! It has been sitting through winter....Only has 4k miles on it.

Hi and welcome to the site,

Initially, have the battery load tested and externally charged.

Offhand, check the main fuse. It would be inside the starter relay housing.

Good luck and thank you for asking.

Battery overcharging

Check your regulator/rectifier output is it according to standard.
Is your battery in prime condition as a minimal caopacity battery retention will make the alternator/charger produce a higher output level to quickly charge the battery to optimal state.
Good enough?

Charging system problem

start up the bike, put volt meter on battery terminals,if voltage rises with revs ,the anternator is okay, but if no volts then the alternator or the wiring to the battery is suspect

New battery lights still flicker and dim when gasing, and the charging rate will drop

If charge rate drops then check all connections are tight especially the battery.

Need to use digital multi meter to check charge rate accurately.

May be faulty regulator or rctifier.

Charging system can't keep up with lights 2001 v-star 1100 classi

Hi Dalemcin,
I had simillar problem,
what I did is I checked the level of fluid in battery and noted that it was drain ( probably evaporated, because the weather temp. where I live is above 40 C) so I replenished the battery with destilled water. Now it works perfect.

Yamaha v star 1100 blowing head lights

How's the battery holding up? Check the voltage on the battery and also check to see if it is bubbling a lot. 13.8V is optimal for the battery charging with the engine running, but up to 14.4 is common. If it's running a lot over that and the battery is making a lot of bubbles, probably the regulator is the problem.

If the battery is low on electrolyte, the regulator doesn't have anyplace to dump electrons, and that could also be a problem, so make sure the battery connections are good and tight, too.

2001 v star won't start   checked battery and it won't take a charge

Battery won't take a charge ! ...trash it and get a new battery in there before it sits too long and your fuel goes bad and you have to clean the carbs too ! Don't feel bad, i've owned 48 motorcycles and at least 60 batteries.......Good Luck to you friend....Tim
