I have a yamaha v star 650 classic when you give it gas & you let off the throttle it takes about 3 seconds to idle back down and it surges after you let off the throtle as it`s slowing down

thank you for your response, i have tried lubing the cables earlier but that did not work. when you take off the gas tank and every thing else so you can see the carb the butterflies look like they are moving the way they are supposed to.pull the throttle and they open let off the throttle and they close immediately. i`m stumped. thank you again for your help

It could be as simple as the cables need lube...buy a small tool made specifically for oiling the cables from the grips down (you can get it at the dealership)....if after several attempts (It will need to penetrate all the way down the inside of the cables), it doesn't change contact me again.

Now try this: Check to see if there is any clearance at the grip....should be at least 3mm.

Then check to see if the rubber intakes are tight and not cracked...if they are cracked, the engine is sucking air

Also check to make sure all the head bolts are at the right specs for torque.

There is also one more thing: There should be an idle adjust knob, or some similar device (such as the choke lever)...that they are set right.

It sounds to be exactly that: the choke is partially on all the time, or the idle adjust is not set right.

My yamaha 650 (2006) (2330 miles) v star keeps on cutting out if stalled and the power drops by about 1 to 1.5 volts and does not restart unless charged again.
Has any one came across this or may have a a resolution or cause for this problem?
Regards Gerry

How to lower the idle on a 2002 yamaha 650 v-star classic?

under the left side of the gas tank you will see i black knob/screw at the end of what looks like a hose. the knob faces the rear of bike. that adjusts the idle. its real easy to find and the only adjustment you can make to the carbs.
