My FZR600 won't start. No mods, all stock. I got it a month ago and it had been stored over the winter with no stabilizer. It wouldn't run, so I cleaned out the tank, made sure the fuel lines were clear, replaced the 3 bad plugs and it ran like a beauty. After about 2 weeks it slowly started to lose power, it was down to about 50% and had trouble starting. It was like when I was pulling the throttle it wasn't getting enough gas. So I went in and took the carbs out and cleaned them, the jets, everything. Put them back on and now it won't start at all. Checked the plugs, they are fouled but I can't tell if it's oil or just carbon. Cleaned them off and kept trying to start it. Took off tail pipe, nothing blocking that, there's a small amount of exhaust coming out when cranking. I messed with the air/fuel mixture screws. After that it started backfiring through the carbs, only one tho. Changing the air fuel screws just resulted in a different carb backfire. I took off the coils and tested them separately, they are fine. All plugs are firing. When cranking all carbs show fuel squirting out. The only thing I can't check is compression and timing. Are these the problems? If so, why was it running before hand so well? I don't think iv'e done anything to alter the timing. Is there a test to see if plugs are carbon or oil fouled? If oil then what? If carbon then what? Gas tank is full, carbs are clean. What the hell is going on?!?!?!

If fuel squirts out the carbs crancking it is possible the floats our float needles aren't set well. Connecting a transparant pipe to the carb bowl ( open the water outlet screw ) the level may not come above 3/4 height of the carb bowl when krancking or at all times. A 'fair' setting for the fuel mixture screws are 2 turns out. Make sure the carb syncronisation is correct. To check, use a drill as 'gauge' between thr carb body and valve. There is a setscrew between each carb. Try to crank the fuel out of the engine: Remove spark plugs, Close fuel **** ( or pince the fuel hose ) and crank till no fuel squirts out of the spark plug holes.

It is possible that th eplugs might be fouled but it seems unlikely after only two weeks running-my fzr would foul plugs but it usually takes months not weeks-also the engine would start but run on2 or 3 cyls. I found using one heat range hotter than standard plugs helped, esp. around town you seem to have been fairly methodical on your troubleshooting-if you have fuel and spark the next thing to check is comp. -if the plugs are wet it is likely fuel not oil-when I first bought mine it had sat over winter and would not start -it turned out that the valve clearances had closed up enough that it was low on comp. when ridden frequently it was ok but as soon as the oil had drained off the cyl walls it would not start-squirting oil in the cyls. would get it started but I pulled the cams and set valves to solve problem-starts ok now but I don't use the choke-you could lift the cover and check your valve clearances -it would be a good idea on a bike that you just bought-don't give up -be methodical and check one thing at a time-when you get it going it will be worht it

These things are really temperamental. The plugs are fouled again..I had the same bike and went through the same thing..It doesnt take much to foul them..Get some new plugs and she'll run like a beaut..Just remember not to choke it to much..Thats where the plug fouling happens the most..Always keep a spare with you and you'l always be on the good..It will work!!Have a great night!!!!!!!!

I need to pull the carbs off my 1995 yamaha fzr600

You need to remove the seat, tank, air filter box and anything else to get to the clamps to remove them. Then clean them and reinstall them have them synchronized.if you are unsure take it to a shop.at the end of the riding season put alot of fuel stabilizer in it and run it over the winter when possible.

Hello; Dump out all the gas in the tank and put in fresh gas with the additive called "Stabil" it is a red liquid you can but at Walmart or any auto parts store. The trick will be to keep it running long enough for the Stabil to degunk the carb. I also had a weedeater that wouldn't stay running and replacing the plug solved the problem, so also try a new plug. They are only 2 bucks! John

The trick is to get out there and fire it up every week and run it for several minutes. Short of doing that - turn the fuel off and run the carbs out of gas before storing. Drain the old fuel out in the spring and refill with fresh fuel. You can add some fuel system cleaner/drier to the fresh fuel. Personally - I simply run the bike every week and add some fuel drier - like STP fuel treatment during winter months. I have never been a fan of the fuel stabilizers - unless you are talking about a huge volume of fuel, like on a boat. Running the bike every week keeps the battery charged, too.

One thing that I have found about 2 cycle engines is that to leave fuel in them over the winter months is asking for trouble, even if they have stabil in them. The reason for this is the alcohol that the government mandates for all gasoline. That alcohol is very hydroscopic and sucks water ito the mixture creating a goo that blocks the needle valve in the carburator, as well as seals the little flapper valves that allow fuel flow. it also blocks the strainer in the tankblocking fuel flow. You can first try this. Remove all of the fuel from the tank. take the top off of the carb and spray a generous amount of carb cleaner down in the top of the carb. replace the top of the carb. Refill the tank with a new mixture of oil and gas (don't use gas that has sat longer than 3 months.) Add a little bit of SeaFoam or any other additive to the mixture. Start/Try and run the machine untill all the fuel has burned off in the machine. refillagain and see if it did any good. If not then you may have to clean the carb and replace the flappers in the carb, as well as fish the strainer out of the tank and clean it. That alcohol sure causes a mess. When you store the machine for the winter, burn off all of the fuel and let the machine be empty for the winter.

How do i drain gas from 20hp 42in yard tractor?

The best way will be to take the fuel line off the carburetor or off the fuel pump, if so equiped, and put it lower than the fuel tank on the mower. Drain into a gas container. You can then put this gas in your vehicle to burn, rather than let it sit and go stale over the winter months.

If you are just taking the fuel out for the winter, and not for any other purpose, you can purchase some fuel stabilizer, called "Stabil", and put about 2 oz. per gallon of gas that's in your mower tank. Slosh it around a bit, start your mower and let it run, or take it for a spin around the yard to make sure you get the stabilizer mixed in well and down into your carburetor.

If you do drain the fuel for the winter, after you are done start your mowers engine and let it run the carburetor dry. That will keep it from evaporating too bad and gumming up your carb. Still a good idea to run some stabilizer thru the carb prior to draining the tank.
