If this is an 87 eliminator you will find a filler cap on either the left or right side crankcase. it will tell you how much it holds too, you will either have a dipstick atached to the cap or a small round window towards the bottom of the motor, here you can see the oil. rust in your tank will become a problem, you can throw some nuts in it with some gas and swish it about. or find somewhere that can pour in a liquid liner in it, i got mine done at my local radiator repair place.

good luck

Hero duet petrol tank fuel valve leaking frequently. Changed valve no. of times.please give solution

take the dirt out of the tank . run it till its about empty, or will barely run. Cut the gas off to the engine and run it dry.

Take the tank off and turn it upside down and drain it. Put just a tint bit of fuel in the tank, cap itt off, shake it, and drain it again until the fuel comes out clean without dirt.

Look inside the tank with a flash light (not matches, lol) and see if it is rusted.
if it is rusted you will have to fill it with penetrating oil and shake it every few hours for a few days to eat up the rust, then rinse it with fuel, and try it on the scooty again

How do I clean my petrol tank

Hi David:
Depends on how old and contaminated it is.
It never hurts to remove it from the frame, unscrew the valve assembly, and then rinse it out with solvent.
What year, make, and model are you working with?
Please reply as a comment to this post.
Cheers.

Pulled a Yamaha mx360 out of the woods no gas cap and every thing full off water milkshake like yyou no.sat for a few yours to I no nothing about dirt bikes I pulled the carberater appart cleaned it...

I hope you used a fuel filter in between the gas tank and the carburetor as rust from the gas tank will block the carburetor ! and i think you replaced the spark plug with a new one ? cleaned the points ( if it uses them instead of CDI ) A good way to get this bike to run is to use something better than fuel ... like paint thinners which has a higher alcohol rating than petrol , this is only used to start the bike and make it run for a half minute ! most bikes have a choke lever at the carburetor or on the left handlebar check to see if its working ok plus clean air filter and battery is charged fully, if you have a large hill nearby clutch starting the bike can some times force it to run longer .

Allpower American. 10000w generator won't start? Changed spark plug, gas is flowing. What else can we try?

Make sure it has plenty of oil. Some engines have a low oil shut off. Pull the spark plug wire off and stick a screw driver down inside the spark plug boot and hold the screw driver about a 1/4 inch away from the top of the spark plug and turn the engine over to see if you have a good bluish spark. If you don't then you have a bad coil or rust build up on the flywheel. If you have spark make sure your gas tank is full with new gas. Make sure the air filter is clean. If that doesn't work try taking the bowl off of the bottom of the carburetor and verify gas flows through the float valve. If that doesn't work then you will probably have to remove the carburetor and clean it out.

Motorcycle gas tank rusted inside

They make an emulsion kit for coating the inside of a fuel tank. Just check with your local Parts dept. You must drain and remove your tank and prep the inside of the tank with sandpaper or I have found that a 12" - 18" extension for a drill and a wire brush work the best. Then use mineral spirits or something along that line to flush out the inside of the tank and then make sure you have cleaned out the rust as best as you can, be careful the wall of the tank is not all that thick, then use the acid to clean out the inside of the tank again. This will prep the inside of the tank to adhere to the coating. Then pour the emulsion coating into the tank and roll the tank around coating the entire insides of the tank. Let dry I suggest a good 24 hours but follow the instructions of the kit. That's it. Good Luck

I have a guardian 15000 generator. Have not used it in a couple of years. New battery and gas and attempted to start it and it will crank, start, then immediately die. Need help. Storm approaching...

Hello, I tried to answer this problem you had a few days ago. You were worried the hurricane was come and your generator wouldn't start. I tried to post the answer but Quest has the slowest servers were work properly. To many customers and not updated servers. Anyway I hope this help you out.

First, replace the fuel filter. When taking out the fuel filter let the gas in the run into a can. This will help to remove any sediment in the fuel tank. Buy a couple of fuel filters. One problem is it where you live. Condensation builds up in the fuel tank and this create rust. When the hurricane is over. Remove the fuel tank, and have it cleaned out. Now, see if they can line the fuel tank inside with a plastic coating. This will stop the rust. Also, insert absorbents packs in the tank when the generator is idle. This will will help the moisture build up.

Second, change the oil and remove the oil pressure shut off sensor and clean it or replace it.
If it has a temperature sensor take it out and clean it. If it has a oil filter change it also.

Third, remove the spark and clean it or replace it. Make sure you have the right plug gap on the spark plug..

Fifth, use some carburetor cleaner and spray around the throttle place and choke plate and make sure that the governor arm to the carburetor is free to operate and everything in the carburetor is working freely.

Fourth, remove the air filter and clean it or replace it.

Sixth, remove all the fuel in the tank and filter the fuel with a couple pair of your wife's pantie hose.
Be really careful, gasoline is extremely explosive.

Seventh, remove the fitting from the tank and use compressed air to clean out the tank. You might think I'm going to far here. Once you think the tank is clean install all the brass fitting and hose and new filters and pour the filter gas back into the tank. as long as it is new gas, if it's fuel old depose of the old fuel.

Next, Never used starting fluid on gas engines. If you get to much starter fluid in the combustion camber it can explode and blow the head off or nock the top of piston off destroying the engine. You and your family be safe. GB you all....stewbison

I need to store my 2009 hyundai for the summer ,What do i need to do.

Fill the fuel tank to full, and use a fuel stabilizer additive. Gas will draw water vapor from the air and condense inside the tank causing the tank to rust. A full tank can not condense and rust like an empty tank will. Us a good liquid silicone on all the rubber, ie tires and weather stripping for the doors and trunk. When ready to drive again change the engine oil that should do it if kept inside. If out in the weather find a good cover and tie it on well.

How to clean a fuel tank after years of storage

Remove the gas valve assembly. Get a cupful of 1/2" nuts from the hardware store and put them in through the gas cap. Add 1/4 tank of kerosene or other "slow to burn" solvent. Put the cap back on the shake the metal nuts all around inside the tank. The nuts will abrade the rust and gunk so you can get the tank nice and clean. I suggest you then use a liquid tank liner. Google kreem products as a source. Now the tank will never rust again and you will get clean gas.

Could you take a moment and rate my answer? Thanks!

I ride for about an hour then it dies. it acts like a fuel problem. it will start back up but will die when i give it gas. if i wait about ten minutes, it starts up and rides finee

possibly **** in your tank which has blocked your jets in the carb, clean out tank and fit an in-line fuel filter and clean carbs, imports often did this due to rust inside tank, if its bad take off tank and put in an old bike chain with some oil and shake the **** out of it, flush it out and drop an old speaker magnet inside tank to colect any rust in the future then fill it back up with fuel

Proper start-up service for a 1980 Suzuki GS550L motorcycle.

Shoot WD40 into each cylinder to get them wet.
Change gearbox oil and oil filter. Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. How bad is the rust inside the gas tank? I would consider a liquid tank liner if rusted. Google “ kreem fuel tank liner “ or go to www.http://www.4secondsflat.com/Fuel_Tank_Sealer.html
  • Lube chain or get a new chain (if needed)
  • Lube Throttle, clutch and front brake cables
  • Lube Speedometer cable
  • Grease the swingarm, axle and steering stem bearings.
  • Install a new battery
  • Clean, and balance the carbs. This will be the problem area. They will likely be gummed up pretty good. Be sure to install an in-line fuel filter before starting the bike.
