I have a 2006 YZ125, that has pretty much been just garage kept since bought new in 2006. I've cleaned the carb and jets and cleaned the plug. The jets were gummed up but its still cutting out high rpms or as u say the top end. an at idle, after u get to about half throttle, it starts cutting out. What else could i check or should i do? Should i go ahead and put new top end in?

SOURCE: 2005 kx250f wont idle.will idle fine w/choke

the fact that it idles with the choke on indicates that fuel mixture is the problem here remove the mixture screw completely check that the o ring seal is not damaged & that the end of the needle is not worn or bent if either of these conditions are obviouse replace the damaged or worn parts general rule of thumb with mixture adjustment is 1&1/2 to 2 turns out give it a try

SOURCE: i think my carb is gummed up or the jets are

The only way to properly clean is to remove and disassemble. However if you are just a victim of bad gas, a shot of carb cleaner down the fuel line will remove fuel that has gelled in the jet. Know if the clog is more serious, drain the carb bowl, and fuel tank. Pour some Chevron "TECRON" directly into the carb, mix a Shock Treatment ( about a third of cup in one gallon of gas)and put in tank. Start the bike just enough to **** into jets, and let sit overnight.Drain the carb bowls and restart the bike. let it idle or drive it slowly for five minutes. this will usually take care of minor clogs. When bike is idling or running better drive to gas station and fill the tank. Drive the shock treatment through the bike(100 plus miles), this should clean up the entire engine. If the techron does not clean the carbs in 5 to 10 minutes of running time, you will have to take them apart to clean them properly. Use Chevron "Techron" not Chevron "Fuel sytem cleaner with Techron". Techron is more concentrated.

Hi, run a number drill through the main jet. Even though you have carby cleaned it a thin layer of residue will remain on the walls of the jet. The problem you have is a lean misfire. Regards Phil.

Replace the pilot and main jets then really clean the carbs soak them in a good carb cleaner. When you re assemble the carbs make sure you have the air screws turned all the way in then one full turn out start from that setting.

My yz125 runs like it is always cold, why?

It's likely just jetted too rich. If you pull your spark plug, it will likely be black and oily. To correct this, you need to alter your jetting. Jetting is not an art - it's fairly straightforward - you just have to physically change the jets inside the carb.

01 monster will only start after 15 or 20 tries or push start

Is it the 01 we're talking about here? The carbs sound like they need to be jetted. Did this just start happening or did you move? Just buy the bike from another state? Does it burn rich when it does run? Does the exhaust burn your eyes? I had a hard time getting my 99 750 to run right, the factory set jets didn't work so I bought a jet kit from Dynojet, and it worked perfect. It is adj also, so if you move up into the mountains you can adjust your carbs. Also had one of those fancy air filters on there, had to take it off, cause it didn't work right either, went back to stock.
