Draining carbs need to drain carbs and put fresh fuel, can't locate on 2008 ninja 250cc

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

    Drain the carbs by attempting to start the bike. There is a tiny amount of fuel in the carbs, it will quickly be replaced by fresh fuel while the bike is running or attempting to start.

There should be a screw head at the bottom of the carb bowl. undo this and it should flow through.

I put my ninja 250cc back togther and i have to shake it in order to get fuel

1) Do you have enough fuel in the tank?
2) Is there any sign of rust in the tank?... If yes then it may be that the dirt/rust is clogging the pickup. To rectify this drain the tank, coat the inside with "Pepseal" and refill the tank :-)

I bought my brother's 1987 Kawasaki Ninja 750R. He told me that he used to have to use booster cables to a car battery to start the bike for the first time in the spring. I've changed the spark plugs,...

Yes, drain the carbs. Also clean the air filter. Get a can of spray starting fluid to assist in getting the engine to start. Chances are the carbs are gummed up from sitting so long. You will probably end up removing the carbs for a thorough cleaning.

My hyosung wont start, it was running fine until it was parked in the shed for approx 3 months, now it wont start! It seems like a fuel problem, it will start and rev when we squirt fuel into the...

Hello and thanks for the question.
It sounds like the carbs are not getting fuel to the engine. This is common with the fuel that we get now. the fuel is not stable and can gum up quickly. I have seen carbs become clogged in as little as 60 days.

The first thing to do is drain the old fuel out of the tank and the carbs. There is a drain screw at the bottom of the carbs and you can drain the fuel out by loosening the screw. Make sure that you are carefull when draining the fuel out so that you dont have excess fuel leaking everywhere. I usually put a small container uinder the drains.

Syphon the fuel from the tank and replace with fresh fuel.

After all this is done try and start the bike and run on choke for a while. the fresh fuel can help to flush the old gas out. If the bike does not run properly the tank and carbs may need to be cleaned. The carbs are very detailed and should only be worked on by a qualified technician.
Thanks and I hope tht his helps.

Hi its not a problem, i just got a ninja 250cc 2008 and didnt get a handbook with it, im wondering if they have a reserve tank and where i would find it?

Hi there and welcome to fixya,

The reserve notion is just an adjustment by the fuel **** switch. The normal fuel intake from the fuel tank will drain fuel 2 inches higher than the bottom level. The reserve part will take .5 inch or even lower. Switching the fuel **** to ON will take fuel from the former state (higher) while selecting RESERVE will drain fuel from the later (lower). Making it look like there's a reserve part on the fuel tank when in fact you just drain fuel from different fuel levels.

Hope this helps

Craftsman eager-1 3.75 mower will not stay running

the engine is not getting enough gas. when you hold down the primer you are bypassing this problem. to fix this simply adjust the carb's fuel screw, located on the side of carb, a little at a time until runs smoothly.

2002 kawasaki ninja ex 250,engine dies after clutch is released

If you apply a load to the engine and it dies then you may have one of three possible problems. The first is that the engine is running poorly because the carburator is gummed up due to fuel being left in all winter and the fuel system is fouled, or your air filter could be just plain dirty if it has never been changed since 2002. A good indication is a spark plug that is black and sooty on the gap.
Fuel and air are easy fixes but, first eliminate the third possibility which is the compression. Buy or borrow a compression gauge and verify that your cylinder compression is up to specifications. If it is way below spec. then you have the problem that is not an easy or cheap fix if you job it out. To do it yourself you need specific tools and knowlege.

So, if it is not the compression and your fuel system is contaminated. Drain the old gas out of the tank. Purchase some carb cleaner and with the manual you can locate the points on the carb in which you can flush out the passages and clean out the float bowl ( be carefull if you remove the float bowl since it is easy to prang the adjustment).
Put it all together with a fresh gas and new gapped spark plug and you should be in business.

Most problems occur from improper or mainly lack of maintenance. If you own a bike and your not an executive with AIG. Then you should take a maintenance course an get a service manual for your ride and get a bit dirty.

2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R Wont Start

Gas in Europe ain't as good as gas stateside. But lets say the gas is okay. Got a fully charged battery? Put a 1 or 2 amp charger on the battery for an hour. Not starting yet? Check for a good spark on one of the sparkplugs.. Next check for water condendsate in the small bowl that makes up part of the petcock ( Fuel valve ). Dump the bowl then turn on the gas valve for a moment. Got gas flowing from the tank? If you have spark and gas and still no ride with the wind in your hair then shut off the gas valve and remove the drain screw from the carbs. Water may have collected there also. Still no go? Take it to a dealer, you have done what you can.

2006 Kawasaki Ninja 250 will not start

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your post "engine will not turn start", are you referring to the starter motor not turning or is it cranking but will not run?
  • if no crank, check the starter relay;
  • will not run, verify that there is spark at the end of the plugs;
  • will not tun, verify that there is fuel in the bowl of the carb (drain again);
  • if it has a fuel valve, set to PRI.
Incidentally, any clicking sound when you press START? Pls postback updates.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
